Help kids prepare for Large Group by learning today’s Big Idea and doing motions to go along with today’s story.

Hear a Bible story, do motions to go along with today’s big igea, and worship God with singing and dancing!

Connect with kids by reviewing today’s story, and engage them with hands on play and crafts.

LARGE GROUP

● Clean up when the presenter gives you a 5 minute warning (about 15 minutes into the service).

● It’s clean up time! Let’s all clean up while I count down from 10 to 1. Ready, set….go!

● Slowly countdown from 10 to 1 until kids have cleaned up toys. Then circle up on the floor, or line up at the door.

SAY Today we’ll learn that God helps us! Let’s do these motions and say God helps us!

● God (point up)● Helps us (stack fists on top of each other)

GET READY | 3 minutes

SAY There was a GIANT named Goliath. He wanted to fight God’s family, and he was SO tall! Let’s all get as tall as we can!

SAY Everyone was scared of Goliath! Make a scared face.

SAY David was brave. He was just a kid, but he knew God would help him! Show muscles with your arms.

SAY David told the king that he could defeat Goliath. Pretend to hold a sword.

SAY David gathered 5 stones from a stream. Let’s all count to 5!

SAY David used his slingshot to throw a stone at Goliath. God helped David defeat Goliath and the Israelites won the battle. Remember: God helps us!

LARGE GROUP

SAY Hey everyone, I’m so glad to see you! Before we get started, I want you to meet my friend HOPS. She’s going to show us how we can act in Kids’ Club!

SAY This is God’s story. Out of ALL the stories in the world, this is the most important. Do you know what it’s called? (The Bible!) It’s God’s Rescue plan! It shows us how He rescued us from all the wrong things in the world. Show kids the Bible.

SAY In the beginning, God made the whole world and everything in it, and it was GOOD. Let’s all say, “It was good!” Make a big world with your arms.

SAY God made all the water in the oceans, and rivers, and lakes. Let’s pretend to swim in the water! Pretend to swim.

SAY God made all the dirt and trees and flowers. Let’s pat the ground and feel the dirt in our hands! Now put your arms up and be a tree! Pat the ground or pretend to be a tree.

SAY God made all kinds of animals, like birds! Let’s pretend to flap our wings and fly like a bird! Pretend to fly like a bird.

SAY But THEN, something very, VERY sad happened. A snake tricked Adam and Eve, and they disobeyed God. Then, all the wrong things came into the world, like sickness, and sadness and death. Show me your sad face. Make a SSSSS sound and slither like a snake.

SAY Then God made two people: Adam and Eve. They got to live in a beautiful garden, and walk and talk with God. And it was GOOD. Hold up two fingers.

SAY Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed God, God loved them anyway! He planned a great rescue so that Adam and Eve, and you and me, could be close to God again! Do you know who the Rescuer is? Jesus! Let’s say JESUS!

SAY Today we’ll learn that God helps us! Let’s do these motion and say God helps us!

● God (point up)● Helps us (stack fists on top of each other)

SAY Say these words and do these motions with me: God helps us! Now let’s all whisper “God helps us!” Now let’s all shout, “God helps us!”

SAY In today’s story, there was a big scary giant who was trying to get in a fight against God’s family. This giant, named Goliath, was not very nice. Can you give me a mad face?

SAY God didn’t want his family to be scared, though! And guess what? There was ONE guy in God’s family who wasn’t scared. His name was David. Can you guys say, “David?”

SAY We’re going to watch a video about David and Goliath. As you watch, see if you can figure out why David wasn’t scared!

SAY Wow, David wasn’t scared of Goliath at all, because he knew that GOD would help him. Let’s do out motions and say, “God helps us!”

ASK Do you think God wants to help US too? Yes, he does!

○ He wants to help us when we’re scared. Let’s act scared!

○ He wants to help us when we’re sad. Let’s act sad.

○ He wants to help us all the time! Show me a big, happy smile!

SAY The biggest way that God helped us was by sending us a rescuer. What’s the Rescuer’s name? Yes, it’s Jesus! And he came to the world to save us from all the wrong things that happen.

SAY Let’s do out motions and say, “God helps us!”

SAY Now it’s time to pray to God. When we pray, that means we talk to him, and he actually LISTENS to us, and hears our words! So let’s talk to God right now. Close your eyes, and say these words after me.

PRAY Dear God. We love you. Thank you for helping us. Aaaa-men!

SAY Now it’s time to worship Jesus! That means we sing and dance and tell him how much we love him. Everybody stand up and sing as loud as you can!

ASK Who was the giant that wanted to fight with God’s family? (Goliath.)

ASK Why was God’s family scared? (Goliath was really big and scary!)

ASK Who was brave enough to fight Goliath? (David.) How did David beat the giant? (He used a slingshot and threw a small stone at him, and Goliath fell down.)

ASK Why was David not afraid? (He knew God would help him!) Can God help us too? (Yes!)

SAY David defeated Goliath–he gathered five smooth stones from a stream, and put them in his bag. Let’s count to five!

● Give each kid a handful of play dough.

● Let kids make 5 smooth “stones” by rolling the play dough into balls.

GET READY LARGE GROUP SMALL GROUPFREE PLAY

Pass out graham crackers or goldfish, and let kids eat at tables. This is a time to personally connect with kids and find out about their day, not just focusing on the story.

ASK Tell me about your day. What’s your favorite (blank)? Who do you live with?

CREATE AND PLAY

SAY Goliath wanted to hurt God’s family. God helped David be brave. David threw a stone at Goliath, and he fell down! God helped David, and God helps us!

● Give each kid 5 cotton balls, a story sticker and a paper bag (write kids’ names on their bag). Let kids pretend that their cotton balls are like David’s five stones.

● Put a plastic bin on each table where kids are sitting, and let them try to throw their cotton balls into the bin for fun!

● Redistribute cotton balls back to kids so they can take them home. (Or they can use them some more in the extra time activity on the next page.)

● Story sticker (1 per kid)● Bin (1 per table)● 9-foot piece of tear off paper (1 per room)● Markers/crayons

LARGE GROUP

SAY Let’s create a giant picture of Goliath! He was 9 feet tall, and HUGE!

● Unroll the 9 ft. long piece of tear-off paper and lay it on the floor.

● Draw a simple figure from top to bottom. Show kids how tall Goliath was and let them lie down on the paper and see how they compare to Goliath’s height.

● You could also tape it to the wall as high as you can, and let kids stand in front of it to compare their height to his.

● Let kids use their cotton ball “stones” to throw at Goliath!

● Give kids a coloring page or activity sheet until their parents pick them up.
