CPR/First Aid Course Add to your professional training by attending this informative class provided by Unique Ser-vices. By attending this class you will become certified by the American Heart Association in both CPR and First Aid. Please note that this is a PRE-CONFERENCE class! When: Monday, July 19, 2010 Time: 9:00 am until 1:00 pm Location: Windwood Presbyterian Church Activity Center 10555 Spring Cypress, Road, Houston, TX 77070 Cost: $30.00 per person if registered to attend PTAC. $40.00 if NOT registered to attend PTAC. Fee payable in advance (see registration form). Fee is non-refundable, but is transferable.

Tuberculosis Testing

If you are new to the childcare profession or if you have changed employers, you are re-quired to provide proof of TB Testing to your employer. Let us help you fulfill this require-ment! Testing to be done by Unique Services, a provider of convenient, on-site TB Testing. Our Speakers

Each day, we will take the opportunity to start the day together in our Worship Center while we enjoy various nationally recognized speakers and performers of in-terest to all. We meet again for an afternoon speaker after the 4th workshop session.

Conference Workshops

Each workshop is 50 minutes long and will have open seating on a first-come, first-served basis. We have special workshop tracks for those involved with Mother’s Day Out and/or Preschool, as well as a special track available for Directors. We will have all of the conference/presenter handouts available ONLINE for you to print out BEFORE you arrive. Workshop notes/handouts will be put up on the website (www.windwoodpc.org) as they become available. Start/End Times

Our start/end times have CHANGED from previous years. Registration is from 7:30 am until 8:00 am each day, followed by Praise & Worship from 8:10 am until 8:25 am. Keynote Speakers run from 8:30 am until 9:20 am each day, with conference workshops starting im-mediately thereafter. We have an Afternoon Speaker from 1:30 to 2:30 pm each day.

Additional Activities

As you can see on the adjoining page, we have two ‘additional activities’ to offer — a pre-conference First Aid/CPR class and TB Testing. These activities incur an additional cost, so be sure to read the requirements on the inside front cover carefully for registration and fee payment.

Cost

We feel that for the quality of speakers and workshop leaders we are bringing to you, we are still very afford-able. (1 day = $65, 2 days = $130, 3 days = $175). Your fees include admission to speakers and workshops, continental breakfast and a catered lunch each day.

The Adventure Preschool & Windwood Christian Academy would like to take the opportunity to invite you to the 13th Annual Preschool Teachers Adventure Conference to be held July 20, 21, and 22, 2010. We have evolved from a small conference for MDO & Preschool teachers — into a conference that now serves over 600 Early Childhood Professionals & Directors per day! We have nationally acclaimed speakers, along with practical and imaginative workshops, where you will find opportunities to be trained, encouraged, and motivated!

Registration Deadlines

We are offering a 10% discount to those who get their registration forms and fees to us by May 28, 2010. The final deadline for PTAC registration is July 2, 2010. Your registration forms and fees should be postmarked no later than July 2, 2010 or hand-delivered by July 2, 2010. Seating is limited, so we recommend that you register as soon as possible. Should we reach capacity and are unable to accommodate you, your registration fees will be refunded. Registration paperwork postmarked after July 2, 2010 will incur a $25 late fee per person.

Training Hours and CEU’s

For each FULL day that you attend PTAC, you are eligi-ble for 6 clock hours. If you attend all three days of PTAC you will be eligible for a total of 18 clock hours. Certificates for training hours will be provided with your registration materials. For a processing fee of $20, you may obtain 1.8 CEU’s from Tomball College. If you wish to be eligible to receive CEU’s for your confer-ence attendance, you must attend all three days and insure that your conference registration form, your CEU request form, and your fees are postmarked no later than July 2, 2010. Requests for CEU’s postmarked after this date will be returned.

Refund Policy

Registration fees are non-refundable, but are transfer-able. Should you wish to transfer your fees to another person, please give us a call at the number below.

No Children Allowed

PTAC has no childcare available on the premises. Par-ticipants should arrange for their own off-site child-care.

Room Set-Up Your classroom environment is extremely important to your teaching success! Court Orders & the Release of Children Speaker: Cindy Pirtle Early childhood educators are often called upon to review and interpret court orders as they apply to the children in their care. This workshop will examine the most common forms for Custody Order and their impact upon the early childhood setting. Participants will have the opportunity to apply basic tenants of custody to various situations within their programs.

Handling Suspected Intoxicated Parents Speaker: Tym Smith This management session will help administrators write a policy for how each program handles parents who may be suspected of intoxication.

Footnote Speaker — John Branyan John Branyan continues to delight audiences across the United States, taking simple comedic storytel-ling to a new high. John’s accomplishments include being an improv player with Think Tank and per-forming at Jay Leno’s National Comedy Competition. John is also a talented writer with such credits as writing for the American Comedy Network and head writer for Lip Wit radio humor service. In addition, he is co-writer and performer in the successful theatrical presentation, Crazy Love. Keynote Speaker — Kim Watson Kim graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. She taught for 7 years in the public schools, raised her children, then accepted the posi-tion of Director of Children’s Ministry and staff liaison for Women’s Ministry at Windwood Presby-terian Church for 7 years. Kim is currently the Vice President of Inspire Women and is being men-tored as a speaker/teacher by Anita Carman. She is also enrolled in Fuller Seminary working on her Master’s degree in theology. She is a proud grandmother to Sage and Desmond!

Taking Curriculum Outdoors Explore ways of making outside time a learning experience. Attendees will discover hundreds of ways to turn the playground into an outdoor classroom. Speaker: Tym Smith Audience: MDO Why Do They Do That?! Understanding Challenging Behaviors in Infancy & Toddlerhood In this session, participants will explore challenging behaviors among infants and young toddlers. They will have the opportu-nity to apply their new knowledge to their own practice with chil-dren and families. Participants will also learn techniques to pre-vent, address, and respond to challenging behaviors. Finally, they will learn techniques to 1) manage each type of challenging behavior and 2) promote pro-social behavior. Keynote Speaker — Alan Root

For the last two decades, Alan has been traveling around the United States telling kids about the love of Jesus with rock and roll, Biblical teaching, and laughter. Alan’s music is unmistakably “kid,” with musical honesty, Biblical substance, and that essential back-beat groove. Alan has been a featured performer and workshop leader at the International Network of Children’s Ministries, Children’s Ministry Idea Explosion, and One Way Street’s Children’s Ministry University, and is the author of seven books for tweens. He’s fresh and different. But he’s not weird. You’ll like him!

Footnote Speaker — Sam Glenn Sam Glenn is regarded as an Authority on Attitude — and he went through tough times to earn that honor. He used the ’POWER of Attitude’ to overcome failure, depression and negativity to create a better life. He says, “If someone asks me to describe what I do, I tell them that I work with organizations that want to rekindle enthusiasm and improve the quality of performance, and I do it by creating an experience of inspi-ration through art, humor, and attitude!” He contends that “we are all born with purpose. Start and End Times have changed from the previous years. Registration is from 7:30 am - 8:00 am each day. Praise and Worship is from 8:10 am - 8:25 am. Keynote Speakers run from 8:30 am - 9:20 am each day, with conference worshops starting immediately thereafter. We have an afternoon speaker from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm each day.

Kerbi Blake has taught for many years, includ-ing MDO, 3’s & 4’s classes. Her love for chil-dren shines through when she is in the class-room! She is pleased to share with you her ideas for creative centers and activities and hopes to help you make your classroom an even more wonderful learning environment. Dorris Burnworth has been a Licensing In-spector for the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services for the past four years. She has 18 years experience in social services with the American Red Cross, Tri-County MHMRA, and the San Jacinto Girl Scout Council. As a student, she was employed as a caregiver for a licensed child care center. “It was the hardest job I ever loved!” Ms. Burnworth holds a de-gree in Clinical Psychology. Gregg Catalano Recognized as one of the nation’s top educational, recreational, and moti-vational speakers, Gregg blends activities, humor, insight, and practical ideas into work-shops that leaves participants energized and truly believing in themselves. Gregg holds a Masters Degree in Counseling Education. Dr. Rick Chromey is a professor, author, and leader in emergent culture and children’s minis-try. He’s a regular contributor and columnist for Children’s Ministry magazine and the author of “Energizing Children’s Ministry in the Smaller Church.” Laura College teaches Kindergarten at Wind-wood Christian Academy. She has also at-tended the Neuhaus program for dyslexic spe-cialists. She is a strong proponent for hands-on learning and feels strongly that 4-year-olds need to be exposed to a variety of reading and language arts concepts that will pave the way for a successful and stimulating learning adven-ture! Alyssa Countryman has spent over 12 years in the field of Early Childhood Education. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Infant & Toddler Development and Special Education. Alyssa has varied experience working with children of preschool and elementary school ages and taught abroad for several months in South Ko-rea. Her Master’s degree program included extensive training in communication with par-ents and in consultation with caregivers. Dawn Doughten has worked with children for over 20 years. Dawn enjoys cooking, spending time with family & friends, and creating neat things out of junk for her class. Alison Ekstrom has worked in a variety of church preschools and Montessori schools for the past 15 years. In between, she had an art business and she loves to combine the two — learning through art! Kara Gore is currently working on her graduate degree in Early Childhood Education. She teaches child development classes at Bra-zosport College in Lake Jackson and has owned and operated “Lifeboat Child Care Train-ing & Consulting” for the past 3 years. Her

passion is working with wonderful and dedi-cated Early Childhood Professionals as we share ideas and stories, increase our knowl-edge and strive to bless each and every child that crosses our path! Diane Havens is the owner of Kids In Action, Inc. She has a B.A. in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University and has taught chil-dren for over 30 years. She created Kids In Action to provide a valuable tool for children to develop to their maximum potential without fear of failure or competition. Her goal for each child is to have fun and feel good about them-selves and their accomplishments. Jackie Hogan has worked with children for over 25 years. For many of those years, she operated a Christian Preschool/Academy. Jackie is a licensed teacher with a BA in Early Childhood Education and she is currently an employee at the Windwood Christian Academy. Her presentations focus on building a “classroom community environment” conducive to learning, where each and every child can feel a sense of belonging. Tina Houser has been a writer of church school curriculum for over 17 years. She is a popular workshop presenter, always bringing energetic and engaging topics to her audi-ences. She is a published author in the areas of storytelling and bringing the Bible to children. K-Crew/Shelley Vaughn has a B.S. in Educa-tion with a Early Childhood Specialization. She is a former PreK Teacher at Holy Trinity Episco-pal School and has also taught in the public schools. She is the co-founder of The K-Crew, which is dedicated to presenting practical ideas to help teachers teach ‘smarter’ not harder! Jean Kuecher is the producer of the Mario-nette Playhouse and has delighted audiences since 1968. With a BA in Elementary Educa-tion and a Master’s in Education (Counseling & Guidance), she brings a unique expertise and insight to her craft. As a teacher, she used puppetry to enhance her classroom curriculum. As a school counselor, she developed weekly marionette shows on self-awareness themes. Rita Lengua has worked for Gymboree for the past 8 years and is the manager of the Willow-brook location. She also works for The Adven-ture Programs in their Fit-N-Fun program with MDO and Building Bridges classes. Susan Mac Hugh is a registered trainer with the Texas Early Care and Education Career Development System. She is an early child-hood consultant, a former preschool direc-tor/head teacher, and the support group leader for the Kingwood/Humble/Atascocita Chapter of the Attention Deficit Disorder Association — Sothern Region (ADDA-SR). Laura Meichan has been teaching Spanish to 3 and 4 years olds for 12 years. She enjoys bringing a little piece of her Mexican heritage alive with her lessons!

Cindy Pirtle is currently serving at Windwood Presbyterian Church as an Elder, on the Lead-ership Team of Women’s Ministry and as a board member of The Adventure Preschool. Educated at both the University of Oklahoma and Oxford University in England, Cindy prac-ticed Trial law for 10 years, and has spoken on legal and motivational topics. Kathy Railey of “Sing With Me”, has worked with children for over 30 years! She was a preschool Bible School teacher for 20 years and has directed Day Camps, Workshops, and Trained Girl Scout Leaders, Children’s Librari-ans, and Preschool Teachers. She currently conducts Song Workshops, Sing Alongs, and Preschool Teacher Workshops to share her love of singing with others. Cathy Ransom graduated from K.D. Studio in 200s with an Associates Degree in Perform-ance Arts and has been acting for over 13 years. She has been teaching for 4 years. Besides her love for teaching and acting, she also has a love for couponing and helping peo-ple save money. Lena Scholten is the director of Children’s Ministries at Windwood Presbyterian Church. She graduated from the College of Biblical Studies with a BA in Christian Leadership. Chris Smith is the Early Childhood Consultant for Enid Public Schools, and a national work-shop presenter with over thirty years of experi-ence. She combines current brain research and “best practice” strategies to create exciting and innovative learning activities for young children. The combination of her degrees in both Education and Christian Education help her to be a constant source of inspiration and motivation. Tym Smith began working in the Early Child-hood Development field in 1986. After spend-ing more than five years in the classroom, he advanced to fill various positions, including Education Specialist, Assistant Director, Site Manger, and then, Director. Tym has served as an NAEYC Validator since 2002 and is a certi-fied trainer. Judy Staley was an elementary school librar-ian for 30 years before retiring in June 2000. During that time she was voted Teacher of the Year three times! She loves presenting at vari-ous conference in the area — where her en-thusiasm about children, books, and reading always shows! Kay Timme, M.Ed. , has worked in the field of early childhood and literacy education for over 30 years. Her professional experiences in-cludes classroom teacher, teacher trainer, spe-cialist/consultant, administrator, and college professor. She is currently teaching literacy courses for teacher candidates at Sam Houston State University.
