Wellbeing and Engagement Survey

Nature Play Grand Opening - Thursday 9th May

Our Years 4 – 7 students participated and completed the Student Wellbeing and Engagement (WEC) Survey organised by the Department for Education. The survey was framed to explore students Social and Emotional Wellbeing, School relationships and Engagement and Physical Health and Wellbeing. It was a confidential survey and no students identified in the survey. We look forward to the results and ways we can continue to improve and support the wellbeing of students in our school.

Year 6/7 Aquatics

On Monday the 25th of March the Year 6 & 7 students attended Aquatics at West Lakes. The students participated in a variety of water sport activities with a strong focus on safety and fun in the water. I enjoyed sailing. I learnt how to sail and balance myself on the board. Aaliyah - Year 7 I enjoyed the boogie boarding, it was fun to catch the waves. I learnt how to balance on my stomach when on the board. Angela - Year 7 I enjoyed the surfing and learnt to canoe. We learnt to change direction by moving the canoe and paddling in the water at the same time. Pirvash - Year 6 I learnt that you should always take someone else with you out in the water and you should always tell others who you are going with, where you are going and what time you will be back. Kristian - Year 7 I enjoyed sailing because it was fun learning how to steer the sailing boats. Misha - Year 7

The North Ingle School and Preschool Nature Play Space is progressing steadily towards a much anticipated Grand Opening on Thursday, 9th May 2019. The commitment of all members of the Nature Play Committee to this project is to be applauded. The substantial hours of planning, applying for and winning a Fund my Neighbourhood Grant, designing and constructing the space for the students of North Ingle School and Preschool to enjoy. The final stages are now in progress and it is anticipated the Nature Play area will be completed over the Term 1 school holi-days. We would like to invite all parents, caregivers and their families to the Grand Opening Ceremony on Thursday 9th May. Official communication for the Grand Opening will be supplied early in Term 2, so save the date and we look forward to seeing you there! Mandy Dicker On behalf of the Nature Play Committee.

The year has started off very positively in 5/6. We have all settled in well, and students have made some good progress so far. In English we have been looking at different genres of writing, including narrative and recount. This week students have started planning a persuasive writing piece, that they are enthusiastic about. We have been enjoying reading groups everyday to expand their comprehension skills, and explicit writing lessons with Ms. Harris every Tuesday. In Mathematics we have been revising strategies to work out addition and subtraction algorithms. Students have been shown different strategies to use and build on their knowledge and understanding of place value and partitioning of numbers. Every fortnight we combine with Ms. Daley’s class for problem solving questions. One of last week’s question was: “On the 1st August, Dave and Matt both started working at McDonald’s. Dave worked every second day, whilst Matt worked every third day. They both earned $20 per day. How many times in August would they work on the same day? How much more money would Dave earn than Matt in August?” Its great to watch the student’s collaboratively working together and using their skills to solve these problems! Students discussed the group learning and what they felt the benefits are - I like when we come together . I like seeing how other students have used strategies to work out their problem. Hannah - Year 6 I can work with people I have never worked with before. We have tricky questions and I use strategies to help problem solve. Kaylab - Year 6 It’s good to work with other year levels because you learn different strategies. I use the whiteboard to break down the question and highlight the important parts of the problem. Mackenzie—Year 6 I find it difficult and ask others on the table to help me understand the question. When people help me I find it a bit easier. Aaliyah - Year 7 Most of the questions are challenging. When I get stuck I talk to my group about the problem and we sometimes use calculators to work it out. Michael - Year 6 When we work with other people it gives me a chance to learn more strategies and you learn how people do it differently. Sophie - Year 6

In Health we have discussed how our emotions impact

on our learning and behaviour. Students have been rec-

ognizing triggers they might have that cause them to

feel a certain way. ‘Why do we lose control of our emo-

tions” - this YouTube clip is a great resource for stu-

dents, teachers and parents.

In HASS this term we have looked at Australia before and after Federation. Students have been researching dates and times of significant events in Australia and displaying these on a timeline. Students have then been able to use their skills learnt in Design and Technology to design posters that we have displayed in our room.

We have been making some artworks as part of our Visual

Art focus this term. Most of these have helped add some

colour and creativity to our learning space. Our focus has

been on primary and secondary colours, line, texture and

audience purpose.
