1.0 PROGRAM INTRODUCTION

The Prescriptive track allows eligible customers to select energy efficiency measures from a defined list

that includes a corresponding per-unit incentive for quick and simple one-to-one retrofits. To be

eligible for the Prescriptive track, the proposed retrofit measures must match the requirements for the

high efficiency measures on the defined eligibility list. If, however, a measure does not appear on the

prescriptive eligibility list, the participant may be able to proceed using the custom track if they meet

the custom eligible participant criteria.

Appendix 1 illustrates the list of eligible prescriptive measures. The definition of a Small and Medium

Industrial customer for the program is as follows:

Small Industries: New Brunswick’s industrial customers with less than 750 kilowatt (kW) of

demand and an electricity consumption of less than 500,000 kilowatt hour (kWh) per year

and are under the Small Industrial Rate Schedule.

Medium Industries: New Brunswick’s industrial customers with less than 750 kW of

demand and an electricity consumption of 500,000 kWh per year or more and are under the

Small Industrial Rate Schedule.

Important Note: Please do not start the project or incur costs until notification has been given NB Power.

Please contact your industrial energy advisor.

The program is available to all qualifying participants on a first-come, first- serve basis. More

specifically, requirements for participation are considered as they are received, and approval and

allocation of qualified incentive funds will occur on a first-come, first-serve basis.

2.0 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND INCENTIVES

The participant must satisfy all eligibility requirements presented in this section.

2.1 ELIGIBLE CUSTOMER

Eligible customer must:

Be classified under the Small Industrial Rate Schedule

Be located in the province of New Brunswick

Have authorization to have equipment installed

2.2 ELIGIBLE PROJECTS

The following projects will be eligible for pre-determined incentive amounts:

Replacing existing equipment with more efficient equipment

Installation of new equipment to reduce the electricity consumption of existing processes

New plant, expansion of existing plant, or added production lines

2.3 ELIGIBLE MEASURES

The program will limit the prescriptive incentives to lighting and lighting controls, variable frequency and

variable speed drives, and compressed air equipment.

This list will continue to expand as the program matures and aims to provide incentives for standard

equipment used to produce most industrial systems.

2.4 INCENTIVES

Pre-approval is required for incentives over $10,000. If the project is less than $10,000, the customer can apply for a rebate once the product is installed. Incentives are determined by the quantity of installed equipment. The incentive maximums are shown in Table 1.

Industry Category Incentive Maximum

Small Eligible Measures

Maximum $40,000

Medium Eligible Measures

Maximum $60,000

3.0 PROGRAM STEPS

STEP 1: CONTACT AN NB POWER INDUSTRIAL ENERGY ADVISOR

NB Power Industrial Energy Advisors will guide you through the Industrial Energy Efficiency Program.

Contact NB Power at 1 800 663-6272 option 5 or by email [email protected]

STEP 2: DEVELOP SCOPE

Scope refers to quotes for cost and a description of work. Work should not start before speaking with

an Industrial Energy Advisor. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure the product will be eligible

for the program. If in doubt, check with your Industrial Energy Advisor. A scope of work and description

from a supplier will be required when applying for pre-approval.

STEP 3: GET PRE-APPROVAL

Once you determine the scope and cost of work, you must submit Pre-Approval documentation on

your project. Your Industrial Energy Advisor will send you the required documents. At the discretion of

your Industrial Energy Advisor, a pre-project site visit may be required. Pre-Approval may not be

required if project incentive will be less than $10,000.

STEP 4: CONDUCT WORK

Once you have been granted pre-approval, you may conduct your project.

STEP 5: REQUEST FOR PAYMENT

Once work is completed, it is time to request the incentive payment. Speak with your Industrial Energy

Advisor on the request for payment process if you have not already. A post-project site visit will be

scheduled once your payment claim has been submitted.

STEP 6: RECEIVE INCENTIVE PAYMENT

Once NB Power has approved your payment request, you will receive the incentive payment within 60

days of NB Power receiving all required documentation.

COMPRESSED AIR Rebate Measures AIR TANKS FOR LOAD & NO-LOAD COMPRESSORS

Product Criteria Compressor (min hp rating)

Minimum Tank Size (gallons)

Rebate Amount

Air tanks store compressed air,

which is injected into the

system when air pressure is

lower than required.

Compressors with load/no-load

controls are eligible for rebates.

The tank/receiver must meet or

exceed the minimum tank size

for the compressed-air system.

10 240 $350

15 400 $550

20 500 $700

25 660 $900

30 660 $900

35 1,060 $1,200

40 1,060 $1,200

CYCLING REFRIGERATED AIR DRYER

Product Criteria Capacity (CFM) Rebate Amount

Cycling refrigerated dryers

automatically turn on and off in

response to load instead of

running continuously.

Dryers up to 300 cubic feet per

minute (CFM) capacity are

eligible for rebates.

0 – 25 $25

26 – 50 $50

51 – 100 $100

101 – 150 $150

151 – 200 $200

201 – 250 $250

251 – 300 $350

AIR ENTRAINING NOZZLE & NO-LOSS DRAIN VALVES

Measure Product Criteria Rebate Amount

Air Entraining Nozzles

Air-entraining air nozzles are more energy-efficient than hand-

held/fixed air nozzles. They use less compressed air for cleaning

and drying by collecting the surrounding atmospheric air.

Note: Nozzles exceeding 14 CFM at 100 psi are not eligible for

rebates

$100 / unit

No-Loss Drain Valves

Timed drains use a timer to set a local lower limit of

condensation in the system and often release valuable

compressed air along with condensate. A no-loss drain opens the

valve only when signaled by a condensate- level controller and is

therefore more energy-efficient. Note: Timed drains are not

eligible for rebates.

$120 / unit

COMPRESSED AIR Rebate Measures VARIABLE SPEED DRIVE SCREW COMPRESSORS

Product Criteria Horsepower (hp) Rebate Amount

A variable speed drive (VSD) uses a

programming module to adjust the

rotating speed of the motor in

response to an input (sensor) signal.

VSD controls are the most efficient

way to modulate screw compressors

with variable loads below 90%.

Compressors between 10 and 40 hp

are eligible for rebates.

10 – 14 $1,200

15 – 19 $1,600

20 – 24 $2,000

25 – 29 $2,200
