CONCLUSION
CARITAS JERUSALEM 2008
THE WORLD HAS BECOME A SMALLER PLACE
Communications and the flow of information happen in fractions of seconds.Today, we cannot claim that “We do not know.” Remaining silent is no longer an option. The international community has the responsibility to act. Killing innocent people, settlement building and colonization, economic strangulation and restrictions, pain and suffering, arrests and hopelessness HAVE TO STOP.
CARITAS JERUSALEM 2008
THE ROLE OF THE MOTHER CHURCH
Caritas Jerusalem’s President, HB Msgr. Michel Sabbah, summed up our role very well when he said: “It is the obligation of the Church not to take sides with Israeli against Palestinian or Palestinian against Israeli but to work with all sides to find reconciliation".
(Speaking in Ireland-6/2007)
CARITAS JERUSALEM 2008
A genuine Israeli partner would:Stop the confiscation of land.Stop the control of Palestinian water resources.Stop the construction of illegal Jewish settlements.Lift the strangulating closure and isolation of Gaza.Dismantle checkpoints that dissect the West Bank preventing the free movement of people and goods. Seize the construction of the separation Wall especially in areas built on Palestinian land and not on the 1948 internationally recognized borders between the two states.Stop isolating farmers from their agricultural land.Stop delaying the negotiations on vital issues such as the status of Jerusalem and the refugees.End Occupation.
