• To identify the types of pressing machines.• To identify the features and characteristics of pressing

machines.• To find the purposes of pressing machines in production

stages.• To compare and contrast the different features of

pressing machines.• To understand the working principles of pressing

machines.

Scope from previous presentation

Specifications Sheet For Survey• Asset Name• Purpose Molding presses.

Molding and curing presses.Track molding and curing presses.Track joining presses.Bumping presses.Air bag inserting presses.

• Center Mechanism

Pneumatic.Hydraulic.Mechanical.Electromagnetic.

Page 3: Presentation 1

• DaylightThe distance between the totally retracted ram to the bolster plate.• Mold typesTypes and sizes of the molds that can be used in the press. • Heating elementIf curing is done by the press the mold should be heated to relevant temperature. Usually the heating element is a steam plate.• Cycle timeThe time required for a press to perform a full molding or molding with curing

Page 4: Presentation 1

• Clamping methodMethod of tightening the top and bottom mold cavities to bottom bed and slide.• Toggle armToggle arm is used hold the mold, insertion of carcass, removal of green or cured tire. There can be top ,bottom or both toggle arms.• Safety methodsSafety methods include locking of top slide using external mechanism such as pneumatic pistons , rack and pinion mechanisms , manual pins , photoelectric sensors etc.• Carcass loading methodDescribes how carcass is transported and inserted into the mold. Using a hoist, conveyor ,divisor ,trolley, manual etc.

Page 5: Presentation 1

• Controlling methodControlling method includes how the press is controlled. Mostly PLC.• DimensionsThe size of the press only neglecting the size of hydraulic system platforms .• Number of cylindersThe number of cylinders in the press that are used only for slider movement and toggle arms.• Mold quantityThe number of molds that can be supported by the press at same time. Mostly one mold .two molds are in BOM presses.in track presses there can be two or more cavities in a single mold.

Page 6: Presentation 1

• Air pressureThe pressure of the air that is used to operate pneumatic cylinders for safety locks or to fill the tube inserted to air tire.• Hydraulic pressureThe pressure of the hydraulic system that is used to operate the hydraulic cylinders mainly for moving slide.• Ram diameterDiameter of the rams that drives the moving slide and toggle pins.• Depth from floor levelSome parts presses are located below the floor and some toggle cylinders are located below the ground.so depth from floor level is important for maintenance and replacing the presses.
