  • FAO estimated 1 out of 8 people is suffering from hunger in the world.

    Around 1.4 billion people live on less than US$1.25 a day.

    The world population is expected to reach 9.1 billion by 2050.

    Food production will need to nearly double by 2050 in developing countries.

    GDP growth generated by agriculture is up to four times more effective in reducing

    poverty than growth generated by other sectors.

    Poor people spend between 50% and 80% of their income on food.

  • Starting from the early stages and during its historical development phases

    United Arab Emirates were among countries who paid attention to and have

    made investment in food security.

    Due to 20072008 world food price crisis, a food security committee was

    formalized having all food security related entities on board to find sustainable

    solutions for such crises and also to define a clear food security vision for the

    emirate of Abu Dhabi.

    A country wide study was conducted to map current food commodities supplies

    components & Risks starting from country of origin right through to household

    consumption.

    Abu Dhabi Executive Council issued in 2010 resolution to establish

    Food Security Center- Abu Dhabi

    Enabling all citizens and residents of UAE to get healthy Nutritious and safe food, regardless of the circumstances such as emergencies and

    crises

    Food security comprises three components :

    A. (Availability).

    B. (Accessibility).

    C. (Affordability).

  • Core mandates of FSCAD

    Develop policies, legislation and Implement food security strategies in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi

    Manage emergency food reserves with stakeholders and private sector.

    Develop emergency food security plans and supervise their implementation.

    Increase awareness regarding food security.

    Follow-up and analysis of food market developments (locally, regionally and globally).

    Coordinate with investment funds and investors regarding local and foreign investments in

    the food sector to support and attain food security in the emirate.

    Support local production growth (in agricultural, livestock and fishery resources)
