• BURKINA FASO means: country of people with dignity. It is a land locked country

• It covers a surface of 274.200Km2;

• People of BURKINA live essentialy of agriculture at 80%

• The population is estimated at 14 017 262 in 2006 but now it may be 16.000.000. of whom 51,7% are female.

• The majority are young people. 46,4% is younger than 15 years and 59,1% is younger than 20 year (census 2006).

School indicators Literacy rate is 80%

School enrolment is 78,6% in 2012

53,8% of children finished primary school in 2007/2008

16,5% of people with disability finished primary school in 2008. ( field study of ministry of social affairs)

The challenges

The country cannot reach the challenge of school for all in 2015

because:

Many children are out of the school system because of poverty.

The school rate in urban areas is higher than in rural areas.

More investments in urban areas.

School drop out rate is high. About 45%.

Our Strategy Our strategy consist to:

1. sensitize the community to understand and accept to take effective measures for the rehabilitation, education, and entertainment of children with disabilities in the project area.

2. Train teachers and teaching supervisors so that they have mastered and apply the tools and methods of inclusive education tailored to the needs of different types of disabilities.

3. Adapt school facilities so that they meet the quality standards of inclusive education in terms of physical access, education and entertainment.

Our Strategy Our strategy is based on a multi stakeholder approach. The main actors

implementing activities on the field are:

Municipality of Garango: made up of representatives of each village and political edge, it helps a lot to raise awareness in direction to the traditional and religious leaders on disability issues.

The departmental service of ministry of social affairs: helps the others to identify children with disabilities and in difficult situations, to understand and above what they need for effective inclusion in the community and at school. Social action does home visits and organizes debates cinemas for public awareness on rather specific topics.

Our Strategy The Community Based Rehabilitation Program Garango: ensures

in collaboration with other local actors, identifications “door to door” for disabled children; organizes sessions of child consultations with specialists. Rehabilitation actions are taken thereafter (surgery, equipment, providing assistive devises etc.)

Basic education districts Garango: Inspectors and teaching supervisors provide educational monitoring the application of knowledge that teachers have received in different training.

The Ministry of Education / Direction of Inclusive Education: in charge of teachers training and teaching supervisors and developing additional modules on inclusive education (intellectual disability, low vision, inclusive sport)

Results reached 1041 Children identified: 878 disabled and 163 difficult social circumstances.

502 children turned up for consultation: (69 need surgery,129 need assistive

devices,126 need fysiotherapy, 26 physical cases,14 visual cases,19

auditory and 37 intellectual cases)

Orientation in Schools October 2015: 250

effective registration in 2015: 101

Results reached 375 teachers trained in inclusive education

55 school directors trained in management inclusive schools

10 teachers school inspectors trained in sign language

Module inclusive sport: work in progress

Module intellectual deficiency: work in progress

55 schools are inclusive with ramps, adapted toilets and handibasket

field.
