Discussion This was a large scale audit with hugely positive
results.
All staff enjoying working at the Hospice and this is evident in the care provided throughout the whole Hospice.
The Core Values of the Organisation are known by all staff and all staff put them into everyday practice. This makes the Hospice different from other Organisations and are specific to the Organisation and Sisters of Charity.
Staff also feel the Core Values are a support to them in their work.
Discussion (Cont’d) Staff have various methods of keeping themselves up
to date and the opportunities to do so are massive leading to a bright, educated and motivated staff, keen to improve their knowledge and thus standards of care.
There is a large network of support available to all staff and all staff are able to identify a safe network. The main support for staff comes from the Chief Executive of the Organisation, which is a massive achievement and everyday work from the Chief Executive in consideration of the size and 24 hour working of the Organisation.
Discussion (Cont’d) Sisters of Charity, Senior Managers, Line Managers,
Colleagues, Human Resources, Administrators, Education, Pastoral Care Team, Leisure Facilities and Professional Associations are some of the other networks of support identified.
All staff note the importance of team work and all describe themselves as a good team player, this may be as a result of the work the Chief Executive does with staff at meetings, interactions and reports, where she stresses the strength and importance of a good team working together, this is also discussed at Mission Effectiveness Programmes.
Action Plan Staff should continue to utilise the many support
networks available to them.
The Chief Executive is most valued in her role with staff support and is asked to continue supporting with her daily interactions, workings and meetings with staff
The Sisters of Charity are asked to continue with their everyday support to staff
The Senior Clinical Team should continue to be available for staff, developing and supporting them in their role and encouraging all staff to maintain their continuous professional development
Action Plan (Cont’d) Mandatory training is kept up to date at all times and
learning utilised in everyday practice
Internal and external courses are accessed and shared with each other through everyday teaching and attendance at meetings
The Pastoral Care Team remain active in providing reflective sessions
All care within the Hospice must remain confidential and staff are afforded this same privilege in their support
Action Plan (Cont’d) Staff meetings and reports will continue to provide a
forum for staff to share any issues or learning needs
Line Managers to continue supporting staff in their roles
Staff may make use of the leisure facilities available to them
Staff to be guided by the Core Values and Mission Statement of the Organisation ensuring each staff member is a supportive colleague to each other

Conclusion Staff are fully supported in their work and the results of the
questionnaire reflects this. There are many safe support networks available to staff and the importance of knowing where to get support and receiving it is clearly achieved in the results. The Organisation is accustomed to moving forward with education. As a result, staff keep themselves up to date with education both internal and external. This helps all staff to develop within their roles, ensuring a bright, professional and innovative working team. These results are testament to the hard work of the Chief Executive, Senior Management Team, the Core Values and the very safe systems and teams within the Organisation.
