Forum on Review of CPE

• A new teaching and learning strategy

• Introduction of alternative and differential pedagogies

• An early and continuous emphasis on remedial strategies


• De-loading of the Curriculum

• Acquisition of life skills, ensuring the holistic development of the child

• Reviewing the current assessment system with

an introduction of continuous assessment

• Reviewing the CPE Paper Design and Format




• New National Curriculum Framework

• Addressing various issues :

– Values Education,

– Interpersonal Skills,

– Citizenship Education

– Sexuality Education

– Sustainable Development




• Reinforcement of pedagogy with a strongfocus on remedial education

• Review of the Paper Format

• Incorporation of continuous assessment




• Provision opportunity for a re sit examination for pupils who have already passed in 3 Papers

• Review of the minimum requirement for the award of a Certificate of Primary Education.

• Give special consideration to CPE candidates who are wards of newly settled expatriates .




• Scrapping of automatic promotion toStandard IV. Removing automaticpromotion with the possibility ofrepeating Std III




• Remedial Education as from Standard I

• Introduction of modern pedagogy throughout the school curriculum (as proposed for SankoréProject and Enhancement Programme)

• More emphasis on reading (Silence on Lit!)




• Separation of Certification and Selection

• Review of papers and weighting in the light of new NCF and pedagogy




Introduction of the Pedagogy used in Enhancement Programme across the

earlier levels

In Standards III and IV, many pupils have been exposed to the teaching /learning methods of Enhancement Programme.


Reading

• Class libraries have been set up andteachers have been requested toencourage pupils to read withunderstanding

• Heads of schools have been invited toensure that pupils make the most ofthe reading time “Silence on Lit !”

• The New NCF will place emphasis ondeveloping reading and speaking skills


• Since mid – 2012 the Project“Silence! On Lit!” introduced inall primary schools is beingsustained

• More books are being offered toschools

• MIE is expected to be ready with afirst draft this year


Objectives of the NCF

• Promote 21st centuryskills, attitudes as well as cater formultiple intelligences

• Promote the holistic developmentof the individuals through initiationinto a variety of skills and values


• Make learning moreenjoyable and teaching moremeaningful

• Develop the criticalthinking, the ability to makeinformed decisions



• Create in the child appreciationforjustice, equity, fairness, altruism,and the love for the

environment• Foster patriotism and national

unity while at the same timepromote internationalconsciousness and brotherhood
