Policy Responses in the Past• State Water Policy adopted in 2003.

• Maharashtra Management of Irrigation Systems by Farmers Act 2005 – enacted in March 2005

• The Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) Act enacted in March 2005

• Fixing up priorities for distribution & allocation of water

• Fixing Bulk water tariff and volumetric distribution of water

• Maharashtra Ground Water (Development & Management ) Act 2009 – enacted in December 2013

Policy Responses for the Future

• Preparation of an Integrated State Water Plan

• Implementation of Groundwater Act 2009 and regulation of groundwater resources

• Promoting efficient & economic use of water and use of recycled waste water

• Strict adherence to water usage norms and waste treatment

• Fixing reasonable rates for water use

• Updating Policies and the Law based on experience gained
