MEANING Shareholders are the investors in a firm. The management is

accountable, not only to them but there are some other interest groups, who are also affected by the activities.

These groups are known as stakeholders. A stakeholder is a party that has an interest in a company, and

can either affect or be affected by the business. Stakeholders include employees, suppliers, trade unions,

customers, industry, competitors, government etc.,

STAKEHOLDERS Stakeholders can be internal or external. Internal stakeholders are people whose interest in a company

comes through a direct relationship, such as through employment, ownership or investment.

External stakeholders are those people who do not directly work with a company but are affected in some way by the actions and outcomes of said business. Suppliers, creditors and public groups are all considered external stakeholders.

DUTY OF AN ORGANIZATION An organization is accountable to all the stakeholders and

not only to the shareholders/investors. Thus, an organization should take decisions, which are

acceptable to all the stakeholders.
