Basic Understandings

Philosophy - To Treat & Dispose off Segregated Organic Wet Wastes in a Decentralized Manner with Recovery of Energy.

Why Biomethanation? - Biomethanation is a Most Viable option for Treatment

of Organic Waste in a most Eco-friendly Manner.

Salient Features

Value addition due to Biogas & Manure. No / Negligible Energy Input & Nutrient Requirements Less Footprint Area compared to Composting Entire Process in a Closed Vessel System

- No Green House Gases emissions to the environment.- No problem of odor and birds & rodents

Cost effective due to the current fuel / electricity prices.

Enprotech’s Anaerobic Digester

This is a ‘Two-Stage Three Phase Separation’ Type Anaerobic Digestion System, developed by M/s. Enprotech Solutions, Pune, for the treatment of various biodegradable organic wastes.

Tank-in-Tank Model saves a space

No solids washout due to the internal modules.

Provision of Mechanical Scum breakers minimizes scum formation

Sludge Drying Beds are not required

Process optimization due to grade separator.

The energy input is minimum – i.e. @ 8-10% of energy generation.

Obligations – ULB’s

Providing Segregated Organic Wastes at site

Providing Land, Water & Electricity

Taking away rejects form the plant area

Manure Lifting & Utilization Mechanism

Connecting Liquid Manure to the Drainage – STP

Obtaining necessary Statuary Clearances

Electricity distribution arrangement

Ensuring annual budget for O&M

Page 14: Presentation on Techno Economic Feasibility of Segregated Organic Municipal Solid Waste Based “Biomethanation-cum-Power Generation Plant” By Sanjay Nandre

Obligations – Technology Supplier

Design, supply, installation & testing & commissioning.

Carrying out post commissioning O&M, if required.

Areas of Concern – Biogas Sector

Limited knowledge of Biomethanation Technologies and it’s Merits & Demerits over Composting.

Not a Stand Alone Systems – An integrated part of Solid Waste Management System.

Selection of Technology & Experience of Tech. Provider. Allow Technologies other than KVIC – New & Improved versions of

Digesters are available. Who is going to Approve Technology – No such agency exists. Hassel free process of documentation for getting CFA/State FA Making funds available on soft loan basis VAT Exemption to reduce the Capex.

Areas of Concern - W.R.T. ULBs

Segregation of wet & dry MSW & its transportation is must.

Selection of Technology – Allow Technologies other than KVIC – New &

Improved versions of Digesters are available.

Knowledge & Experience of Tech. Provider.

Securing funds for O&M – ULBs/Housing Complexes / Resorts

Not a Priority Area – always neglected while budgeting

‘Economics ‘ overpower ‘Necessity’

Economics depends on effective utilization of byproducts

No proper space is earmarked for the project at planning stage

Some Suggestions to MNRE & AREAS Prepare a Guidelines for getting Registered Biogas Technology Supplier Technology Suppliers Must get Registered with Respective State Nodal

Agency, where the company is registered and they may be allowed to work in the states of AREAS.

At the Initial Stage keep Registration Criteria Minimum – Review yearly Focus on Bulk Waste Producers Define Clear-cut Roles of ULBs & SNAs Don’t make Electricity Generation compulsory – Thermal is most viable Make technology Suppliers Channel Partners to MNRE Make hassle free process for Documents for getting CFA Targets should be Market Oriented and not CFA Oriented

1. Domestic Scale – Privately Owned - Bungalow’s /Flats / Housing Complexes /

Hotels / Institutes/ Resorts./ Residential Colonies.

2. Medium Scale (Decentralized Manner) – Electoral Ward Wise - Owned by

ULB’s.

3.1 PPP Mode – ULB’s (Capital Cost + O&M) + Institutes (Land) = Institutes may

utilize biogas for cooking / Electricity generation.

3.2 PPP Mode – ULB’s (Land + O&M Cost) + Rotary Clubs / Industrial Houses

(CSR) (Capital Cost) = ULB’s may utilize biogas for cooking / Electricity

generation.

4. Large Scale (Centralized System) - DBOOT / BOO .
