The Importance of Healthy Respiratory

System

The Importance of Healthy Respiratory System

A healthy respiratory system is crucially important to us, it allows to exchange gas effectively . The main function of the respiratory system is to take in oxygen to let humans breathe in order to sustain our life . Thus it is very significant to own a healthy respiratory system .

A healthy respiratory system will soothes a person’s nerves, stimulates appetite,

helps digestion, induces sound and refreshing sleep. In addition , a healthy respiratory system brings life to the skin, as for a lack of air the skin nearly dies. In conclusion , it will produces a healthy mind, clean lungs, and a calmer constitution when we actively use it.

Overall , we should protect and take good care of our lungs as it is extremely

precious and important to us , humans .

Air Pollutan

tCarbon Dioxide•This gas is produced by motor vehicles , factories using fossil fuels and the burning of wastes such as paddy stalks .•This gas can form a layer in the atmosphere around the Earth and causes global warming .•Breathing in an excess amount of this gas causes severe headaches .

Page 4: Presentation Science Scrapbook

Sulphur Dioxide • Sulphur dioxide is released when

fossil fuels such as diesel and coal are burnt in factories .

• Sulphur dioxide is a poisonous acidic gas .

• It dissolves in rain to form acid rain .• It corrodes the respiratory system

because of its acidic nature and can cause diseases such as asthma and bronchitis .

Carbon monoxidei. Carbon monoxide is a very poisonous

gas .ii. It is produced when fuels such as

petrol and diesel in motor vehicles are incompletely burnt .

iii. When breathed into the body , the haemoglobin in the red blood cells readily combine with it to form carboxyhaemoglobin

iv.The body cannot get oxygen and the person dies of carbon monoxide poisoning .

•Dust•When breathed into the body, dust irritates the respiratory system .•Excessive dust breathed in can also block the tiny air tubes (bronchioles) in the lungs and cause lung diseases .•Dust can harbour bacteria such as tuberculosis bacteria .•One can get tuberculosis of the lungs by breathing in infected dust .

Smogi. Smoke from motor vehicles

and factories together with dust and mist form smog .

ii.Smog not only reduces visibility , but causes respiratory diseases such as asthma and bronchitis , especially among elderly people .

Varities of disease that relate to respiratory system

Page 9: Presentation Science Scrapbook

Asthmai. Asthma is a respiratory disorder ii.Its symptoms are difficulty in

breathing, wheezing , coughing and a feeling of tightness in the chest .

Page 10: Presentation Science Scrapbook

BronchitisBronchitis is inflammation of the epithelium (cell layer) of the bronchus caused by fine particles that float in the air that are mostly found in cigarette smoke.

Page 11: Presentation Science Scrapbook

Emphysemai. It happens as a result of abnormal

growth in the cells that lines the tiny air channels in the lungs causing these channels to become blocked.

ii. This growth causes carbon dioxide trapped in alveolus and cause the alveolus to burst.

iii.Bursting of the alveolus cannot be repaired.

Lung canceri. Cancerous lung cells are unusual

cell growths in the lungs.ii. Carcinogen, the chemical substance

found in cigarettes, is the main cause of the lung cancer.

Pneumonia• Breathing difficulty• Feeling very tired• Excessive production of

mucus.• The nicotine in cigarette

smoke causes pneumonia

Carpooling

Carpooling can reduces the amount of greenhouse gaseous emmited into the atmosphere. This leads to less cars on the road and prevents traffic conjunctio n.

Service our vehicle regularly

Prevents vehicle engine emmiting excessive carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. Also prevents road accidents from happening.

Prevent Open

BurningDon’t burn rubbish outdoors openly. Use an incinerator instead.Reduces the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air.Recycle rubbish to prevent environment pollution .
