WHAT IS ANDROID? Android is an Operating System based on the Linux Kernel. Designed for touchscreen mobile devices such as

Smartphones and Tablets PCs. Android was found way back in 2003. It was developed in Palo Alto, California. Android was developed by the Andy Rubin, Rich Miner,

Nick Sears and Chris White. Android was purchased by the GOOGLE in AUGUST,2005 for

50 million $.

Wordmark was created along with the DROID FONT family by Chicago –based

type foundary ascender corporation. The robot icon is a creation of a California based designer named IRINA BLOK. Irina drew a striped –down robot with a tin can shaped torso and antennas

on his head.

Color “Android Green” is the color of the android robot that depicts the android

operating system. The green color stands for growth , freshness and prosperity.

Font The Android Logo features the custom Typeface called Norad.

Open Handset Alliance(OHA)What is OHA?

It’s consortium of several companies. This group of companies are allowed to use source code of

Android and develop applications. Reason for Nokia not to develop Android Mobiles is Nokia is

not part of OHA.

The Android operating system is open-source software meaning its source code is distribute Freely , without any royalty fees.

It enables us to develop software based on the interface and to create applications that can be distributed to other android users.

Google offers free Android development kits and tutorial via its Android Developers website.

This offers a benefit to developers and software designers and ultimately for all Android users providing more options to everyone.

The presence of USB ports and micro SD card docks enables sharing files , images and folders much easier than thought . In addition , the docking feature will allow us to easily synchronize with other PCs , laptops and tablets.

Android operating system are mostly made with resistive type of touch screen that enables typing using onscreen touchpad and separates this functionality with the use of stylus that probably will be carrying the ability to recognize handwriting in one or the other tablets PCs.

Interface that is better then the previous touch screen mobiles. User gets millions of applications that user can not get in any other

mobile operating system. Android supports advanced audio/video/still media formats such as MPEG-4,

H.264, MP3, and AAC, AMR, JPEG, PNG, GIF. Developing an android application is not tough using SDK(standard

development kit) and java emulator we can easily develop applications that we want.
