What a year it has been! 2020 has been nothing short of a “hot mess” for everyone... and Second City Canine Rescue was no exception. Less than 3 weeks after closing on our dream home, COVID-19 devastated the world and has changed all of our lives forever. But if SCCR is nothing else, it is resilient. The need for a bigger meaning to our lives took on a whole new level. Dogs were, and continue to be, placed into forever homes at record numbers. And with dogs being placed in record numbers, expenses continue to add up and donations continue to be of utmost importance, now more than ever. Our “Feels Like Home” theme for the gala was decided long before so many of us were stuck at home with our best buds, and has since taken on a double meaning - both the new home for so many dogs in the Adoption Center and the fact that we’re all reading this message from the comfort of our homes, rather than together at a lovely venue.

Transitioning to a virtual gala was an experience - at one point a “back up plan”, quickly turned into “the only option”. Our hearts were broken, as we all LOVE seeing our supporters in person and adore being able to celebrate our successes - in large part because of you - with you. This gala and introduction to the Adoption Center is the start of a new beginning... a new home full of dogs who have bright futures with loving families ahead of them. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for “pivoting” with us to this virtual fundraiser, and thank you for continuing to support our mission during these uncertain times. We are confident that because of your support, we will be there for dogs in need for many, many years to come.
