Presenters
Mark Andersen
Executive Director Yampa Valley Community Foundation Mark Andersen has been the Executive Director at the Yampa Valley Community
Foundation since 2009. He has over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit
sector including work as a program manager at a residential facility for abused
and neglected youth, leading a local United Way in Northwest Colorado, various
fundraising positions, and running a summer camp for children with chronic
medical conditions. Mark has served on numerous community boards and is
currently the Board Chair of the Colorado Association of Funders. He and his wife
have two grown boys and enjoy getting outside as much as possible.
Noah Atencio Vice President of Community Impact Community First Foundation
Noah joined the Foundation in June 2014 as vice president of Community
Impact. He brings more than 18 years of grantmaking and program development
experience to his role of overseeing the deployment of the Foundation's
grantmaking resources. Previously he served in leadership positions at the
Daniels Fund and El Pomar Foundation. Noah has also served on numerous
commissions and held advisory roles on issues related to early childhood,
homelessness and substance abuse. A student of leadership, he is a proud
alumnus of the President's Leadership Class at the University of Colorado -
Boulder, the El Pomar Fellowship in Community Service, Leadership Jeffco and,
more recently, the Latino Leadership Institute.
Erin Atwell
CEO Community Shares of Colorado Erin Atwell is the CEO of Community Shares of Colorado and long-time champion
of the belief that every day philanthropists, giving to the causes they care about
most, are the most important change makers in our community. The powerful
impact recognized when we give together inspires her personal and professional
commitment to community investment. Erin currently serves as the Vice
President of the Community Shares USA National Board of Directors and
participated in the inaugural cohort of the Chinook Fund Giving Project. Born and
raised here in Colorado, she is dedicated to building a strong, vibrant, and
inclusive local community. She is an alumna of University of Notre Dame and has
almost 20 years’ experience in the nonprofit sector.

Lindsay Austin Louie Program Officer, Effective Philanthropy
Hewlett Foundation Lindsay Austin Louie is a Program Officer for the philanthropy grantmaking
program, which sits within the foundation’s Effective Philanthropy Group. In
this role, Lindsay supports two grantmaking strategies that seek to increase
and improve the effectiveness of all foundations: (1) Knowledge for Better
Philanthropy, and (2) the Fund for Shared Insight.
Elizabeth Barber
Executive Director The Greeley Dream Team
As a Colorado native and a Weld County Resident for the past 27 years,
Elizabeth has been a strong advocate for youth pursuing a postsecondary
education. Elizabeth has seen, firsthand, how it can change not only the
student in a positive manor but also the trajectory of their entire family. As a
first generation college graduate in her family, she knows what a difference a
post-secondary education can provide. Elizabeth has worked in the non-profit
arena of helping families and their children for more than 20 years. Elizabeth
currently is the Executive Director of the Greeley Dream Team, Inc. and for the
past nine years has directly witnessed the success of many students graduating
from high school and attending a postsecondary institution of their choice.
Elizabeth belongs to several organizations and committees in the Greeley and Weld County community
including: PEO Chapter I; Human Services Advisory Commission; and GPOA Spouse Association to name a
few.
Letty Bass Executive Director
Merle Chambers Fund Letty Bass is the executive director of Merle Chambers Fund, a private family
foundation in Denver, Colorado. Chambers Fund provides funding for justice,
equality and opportunity, women’s economic self-sufficiency, and early care and
education. Prior to joining the foundation in 1997, Letty was senior program
officer at Rose Community Foundation where she developed the children and
families program area during the start-up phase of the new foundation. From
1990 –1996, Letty was executive director of The Women’s Foundation of
Colorado, managing grantmaking and fundraising activities of the public charity.

Lori Bellingham Vice President- Communications
El Pomar Foundation Lori Bellingham joined El Pomar Foundation in 2013. She is vice president of
communications and deputy director of Regional Partnerships. She also serves
as the Foundation's director for The Gazette El Pomar Empty Stocking Fund,
Pikes Peak Heritage Series, and is El Pomar’s senior staff member for the High-
Country Region. Lori’s prior experience managing development and marketing
for nonprofits includes working for, the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic
Games, City Year, Inc., Element Six Public Relations and Pikes Peak United Way
in Colorado Springs. She currently serves on the boards of the Children’s
Literacy Center, Central City Opera, and the U.S. Olympic Museum marketing
committee. Lori earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Tufts University.
Jacquelyn Clemmons-Hamilton Facilitating and Performing Artist Creative Strategies for Change
Jacquelyn Clemmons-Hamilton, is a facilitating and performing artist with
Creative Strategies for Change. The creator of De La Luz Wellness, Jacquelyn is
an experienced doula, energy healer and accomplished writer and artist, with
certification in the Grand Trine Tantra Energy System. As an accomplished
vocalist she has traveled worldwide sharing her gifts. Her approach to her
artistry is informed by her approach to her healing practice.
Cari Davis
Executive Director Colorado Springs Health Foundation Cari’s professional passions are health and social justice. Over the course of her
career, she has explored core principles of leadership, management and
teaching/coaching as ways to make a positive community impact. Currently, she
serves as executive director of the Colorado Springs Health Foundation, a
grantmaking organization formed from the lease of Memorial Health System to
UCHealth. Previous professional experiences include working as faculty for Yale
University’s Global Health Leadership Institute in Rwanda and Ethiopia; directing
communications and marketing for Memorial Health System; leading TESSA; and
providing quality and performance improvement consulting to hospitals.

Maria Fabula President & CEO
Community Resource Center Maria brings more than 17 years of experience in nonprofit management, fund
development, volunteer engagement, collaboration and business
development. Maria has extensive experience delivering training and consulting
services to increase nonprofit capacity. Maria earned a B.A. in Political Science
from the University of California at San Diego Revelle College and has spent a
majority of her career connecting government agencies, nonprofit organizations
and private enterprises to improve community. Her experience includes
leadership positions with the Nonprofit Support Center, the Junior Statesmen
Foundation and the California State Senate. In 2014, Maria was appointed by
Governor John Hickenlooper, to serve on the Governor’s Commission on
Community Service and she is the past president of the Nipomo Area Recreation
Association.
Renny Fagan
President and CEO Colorado Nonprofit Association
Renny Fagan is the President and CEO of Colorado Nonprofit Association. With
1,300 member nonprofit organizations statewide, the Association provides
knowledge resources and advocates for the entire nonprofit sector. Renny is a
former state legislator, director Colorado Department of Revenue, deputy
attorney general, and state director for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar. He serves on
Colorado Commission on Higher Education (Vice-Chair), and the boards of
National Council of Nonprofits (chair), Mile High United Way, Colorado Channel
Authority, Metro Denver Leadership Foundation and Colorado CPA Society. A
Colorado native, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago
and a J.D. from Northwestern University.
Indira Guzman Co-founder and Interpreter
Community Language Cooperative
Indira Guzman, a co-founder and lead interpreter at the Community
Language Cooperative, has over 25 years of experience in providing real time
interpretation services. After her Chicano Studies at Metro State University,
Indira has acted as a liaison for the Spanish speaking community throughout
Denver. She currently works as a community organizer with the Colorado
Trust in Sheridan Colorado. As a worker-owner of the CLC, Indira provides
coaching and training development with new interpreters and service
providers on the best practices for breaking down language barriers. Indira
currently sits as a board member for the Roots Family Resource Center and
Sanctuary Christian Fellowship. She is also a member of the Economic Opportunity Committee with the
Denver Foundation and a Governance Committee with the Arc of Colorado.

David Henninger Executive Director
Bayaud Enterprises, Inc David E. Henninger has worked in the nonprofit sector since 1973, as the
executive director of Bayaud Enterprises, Inc., (Nee- Bayaud Industries) which
has been in operation since May of 1969 creating jobs for thousands of individuals
who have a disability and/or economic challenges. Bayaud serves over 1500
people a year and currently employs over 200 individuals with an operating
budget of $8.8 million.
Elsa Holguin Senior Program Officer – Childhood and Family Development Rose Community Foundation
As senior program officer at Rose Community Foundation, Elsa I. Holguín directs
the Foundation’s Child and Family Development area, which supports the
development and improvement of early childhood education, parent education
programs that help parents raise healthy children, and the development of
economic self-sufficiency strategies to strengthen families. She has also been
instrumental in creating and directing several initiatives including the Denver
Opportunity Youth Investment Initiative, the Latino Community Foundation of
Colorado, Early Milestones Colorado, and the Skills to Compete Coalition.
Eric Hozempa
Executive Director Longmont Community Foundation Eric Hozempa was raised in Longmont and has over 25 years of nonprofit
experience. Prior to working at the Longmont Community Foundation, Eric
worked at Rocky Mountain PBS, Dental Aid, Eco-Cycle, Metro Volunteers and was
a Senior Consultant for Richard Male and Associates in Denver. Eric received his
undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Joanne Kelley
Chief Executive Officer Colorado Association of Funders
Joanne leads the organization in its efforts to provide education and advocacy
for Colorado’s philanthropic sector. Before transitioning to her role at CAF,
Joanne spent much of her career in journalism with news agencies, magazines
and daily newspapers in Denver, Washington, DC, New York City and Chicago,
working to inform the public about a wide range of subjects including Wall
Street, Congress, high technology and the social profit sector. Joanne brings
other experience to CAF including several years working for a management
consultancy on the Innovation team that planned and hosted CEO summits and
educational seminars for diverse groups of executives.
She received a Master of Science degree from Northwestern University's Medill
School of Journalism and graduated from Wells College with a B.A. in Spanish

and History. She completed a nonprofit journalism fellowship sponsored by the Knight Foundation at the
University of Mississippi and completed El Pomar Foundation’s Nonprofit Executive Leadership Program at
the Center for Creative Leadership in 2012.
Lindsay Koerner
Colorado Food Pantry Network Manager Hunger Free Colorado Lindsay Koerner has more than 15 years of experience in program leadership. She
cultivates relationships, develops high-performing teams, and leads programs
through conflict and change in an effective and collaborative manner. As the
manager of the Colorado Food Pantry Network, she leads a group of Colorado food
pantries towards improvement and collaboration by helping them share resources,
network, and take collective action.
Pat Landrum Executive Director Social Venture Partners
Pat Landrum joined SVP as Executive Director in 2011. Prior to SVP she was
Executive Director of The Healthy Community Consortium in Petaluma, California
from 2003- 2011 where she facilitated a community wide youth development
initiative. She was Executive Director of The Civic Forum in Grand Junction,
Colorado from 1994-2000. Prior to 1994, Landrum helped develop a national
network of specialized neuro-rehabilitation centers and facilitated development of
practice standards in cognitive rehabilitation.
Amy Latham Vice President, Philanthropy Colorado Health Foundation
Amy is passionate about opportunity – more specifically, creating opportunities for
all Coloradoans to live healthy, fulfilling lives. That passion makes the Colorado
Health Foundation’s mission close to her heart. Amy has been with the
Foundation since 2008, serving as a portfolio director and a program officer before
becoming vice president of philanthropy in 2015. Amy’s staff is focused on
creating opportunities for health across Colorado – through funding initiatives and
programs, partnerships, grants that support innovative ideas, and community
engagement. One of the highlights of Amy’s many experiences at the Foundation
was the statewide listening tour, when she traveled throughout the state and
heard about the opportunities and barriers to creating healthier communities.

Tony Lewis Executive Director
Donnell-Kay Foundation Over the course of fifteen years, Tony has pushed for innovation and
improvement at the school, district, and state level. Prior to serving in this role,
he worked for the Environmental Protection Agency in San Francisco and more
recently for the Colorado Outward Bound School, an experience he says shaped
his approach to the world. He earned his B.S. in forest management science
from Colorado State University and holds a master’s degree in international
studies from the University of Denver. Tony serves on a number of boards and
advisory boards, including the Governor-appointed Great Outdoors Colorado
(GOCO), the University of Colorado at Denver’s School of Public Affairs,
Education Cities, and America Succeeds.
Christine Marquez-Hudson President and CEO The Denver Foundation
Christine Marquez-Hudson is president and chief executive officer of The
Denver Foundation, the largest and most experienced community foundation in
the Rocky Mountain West. Upon joining the Foundation in 2016, Christine
prioritized practicing leading-edge philanthropy, advancing racial equity and
achieving operational excellence. Currently, The Denver Foundation manages
more than $820 million in charitable investments. It distributes over $60
million in grants and scholarships annually. Under its current strategic plan,
The Denver Foundation’s community grant-making is focused on furthering
economic opportunity, basic human needs, P-12 education and grassroots
leadership and equity. With over 1000 funds, the Foundation provides an array
of philanthropic services to its donors, nonprofit agencies and businesses.
These include family philanthropy, impact investing services, and issue
briefings.
Alece Montez Director of Programs
Orton Family Foundation Fear of heights is not an issue for Alece, who was a firefighter on a high-angle
rescue team. With her planning experience she helped pioneer Community
Heart & Soul and has worked with towns across the U.S. for more than a
decade. Her bachelor's is in Planning from University of Colorado-Boulder and
master's in Public Admin. from University of Colorado-Denver. While earning
her master's she developed comprehensive plans on Air Force bases, winning
awards for her work. She was a PLACES (Professionals Learning About
Community, Equity, and Smart Growth) fellow, and serves on state and national
boards. Alece grew up in Lafayette, CO (pop. 26,700), and resides in
Westminster with her family.

Jason Neises Heart & Soul Coordinator
Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque Jason Neises is the Community Development Coordinator at the Community
Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD). He works with rural communities in the
CFGD seven-county region to implement Community Heart & Soul, a planning and
development process designed to increase participation in local decision-making
and empower residents to shape the future of their communities in a way that
upholds the unique character of each place. Originally from Dubuque, Neises has
spent most of his career in adult education and working with non-profits, including
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Chicago Architecture Foundation,
and the Peace Corps.
Allison Neswood
Health Care Attorney Colorado Center on Law and Policy
Allison Neswood is a health care attorney for the Colorado Center on Law & Policy
(CCLP), a Trust grantee and participant in Health Equity Advocacy, a group of
organizations working together to build a strong and diverse field of health equity
advocates in the state. Her job at CCLP is to advocate for access to health care
and other basic needs, with a focus on public benefit programs.
Kara Penn Owner, Principal Consultant
Mission Spark Kara Penn is owner and principal consultant at Mission Spark, a strategy
consulting firm that partners with philanthropy, nonprofit and social enterprise
leaders to achieve transformative social change and to strengthen the social
sector. She is the co-author of Fail Better: Design Smart Mistakes and Succeed
Sooner (Harvard Business Review Press). She's led award-winning community
collaboratives; designed, managed and evaluated multi-year social change
initiatives; and guided --as a trusted, results-driven partner-- more than 75
government, corporate, nonprofit, philanthropic and community-based
organizations on mission-critical work. She also is a CTI-trained executive and
life coach. She feels immensely privileged to work alongside courageous
nonprofit leaders, boards, and funders to strive for a more just, inclusive and
generous society.

Stephanie Perez-Carrillo Policy Analyst
Colorado Children’s Campaign Stephanie works as a Policy Analyst for the Colorado Children’s Campaign.
Prior to joining the Children’s Campaign, she worked as a Public Policy Fellow
at The Women’s Foundation of Colorado – where she found her love and
passion for policy work. Before diving into the policy world, Stephanie served
as a Teach for America Corps Member in South Carolina, teaching high
school and middle school math. Early on while obtaining her degree in
Marketing from Florida International University, she worked in health care as
a Patient Advocate and Unit Secretary. When she is not working, you can
typically find her at a coffee shop, hanging out with friends, or engaging in
some type of outdoor activity.
Alison Friedman Phillips Manager of Programs
Women’s Foundation of Colorado Alison manages programs at The Women’s Foundation of Colorado. This gives
her the privilege of making grants to nonprofits, diving deep into research, and
advocating at the state Capitol on behalf of Colorado’s women and girls. Before
that she lived in Washington, D.C. and spent time as an intern in the education
policy program at the think tank New America and in the office of the Honorable
Michael Bennet. And even before that she lived and worked in the beautiful
Roaring Fork Valley serving as a development officer at Aspen Community
Foundation. Her first “real job” was as a community organizer for a nonprofit
organization during the 2008 election cycle in Eugene, Oregon.
Erin Pulling CEO Project Angel Heart
Erin Pulling has been the CEO of Project Angel Heart since 2004 and has served in
various other positions at Project Angel Heart since 1995. As CEO, Erin oversees
the delivery of nutritious meals to more than 1,100 people per week coping with
life-threatening illness, totaling more than 315,000 meals per year. Project Angel
Heart is engaged in strategic growth, completing a groundbreaking research
project investigating medical cost savings and launching a social enterprise.

Lisa Raville Executive Director
Harm Reduction Action Center
Lisa Raville grew up outside of Chicago, IL and graduated from DePaul University
with a degree in Communications and a minor in Women’s Studies. Lisa is the
Executive Director of the Harm Reduction Action Center, a public health agency
that works with people who inject drugs. Lisa has been with HRAC since 2009.
Lisa’s activist voice was cultivated with her experiences as an overnight homeless
shelter coordinator, development work at a domestic violence agency, a former
campaign manager for a CA County Supervisor, and an AmeriCorps VISTA at an
AIDS agency.
Brenda Roush Development Director Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute
Brenda joined the RMMFI team in August 2017 with 27 years of professional
and volunteer fundraising experience. She helped found a St. Louis based
national nonprofit in 1987, the National Guard Clearinghouse. Brenda
continued her fundraising and marketing career with Missouri NARAL, Colorado
NARAL, SafeHouse Denver and The Gathering Place (TGP). At TGP she lead a
$5 million capital campaign that surpassed the goal by almost $1 million and
also lead the launch of Art Restart, a social enterprise providing royalty
payments to artists living in poverty as well as general operating revenue for
TGP. Brenda is the current President of Community Shares of Colorado board
of directors, and facilitates Coffee Chat monthly for the Colorado Chapter of the
Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP-CC) In 2001 Brenda graduated
from the Women’s Leadership Institute and in 2010 she was recognized as
Outstanding Development Professional of the Year by AFP-CC. Brenda is currently a member of the
Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation’s Colorado CivicDNA Fellows program.
Emily Shamsid-Deen
Community Engagement Manager Community Resource Center Emily Shamsid-Deen has worked in the nonprofit sector for over 13 years. She
has worked in HIV/AIDS education and prevention as a direct service provider,
managed a statewide training program supporting domestic violence
organizations, and ran a statewide leadership development program for those
working to advance social justice issues in Colorado. Most recently, she was an
Adjunct Faculty at Denver University in the Graduate School of Social Work
teaching social welfare policy analysis and practice. Emily holds a BA in Political
Science and Black Studies from Colorado College and a Master’s Degree in
Nonprofit Management from Regis University with an emphasis in Program
Management. Emily is committed to working collaboratively with the nonprofit
sector to increase their capacity to affect long-term systemic change in the communities they serve. Emily
lives in Denver with her husband, two kids, and their dog Roscoe.

Rachael Sharp Founding Director, Consultant, Artist
Creative Strategies for Change Rachael is a founding director, consultant and artist at Creative Strategies for
Change. She specializes in community-based, devised theater and movement,
popular education, and arts integration with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
work. Rachael holds an MA in Social Justice Education and the Arts from NYU,
where she worked with local artists and community organizations to present
Dismantling Racism: Arts, Dialogue, Action, and received the Nia Award from the
Center for Multicultural Education and Programs.
Julie Stone
Director of Operations Work Options for Women
Julie was most recently serving as Work Options for Women's Director of
Operations. Julie was recently awarded the honor of placement in the 2017
Greater Good Leadership Program at the Kellogg School of Business at
Northwestern University in Chicago. This is a special program to develop the
leadership capabilities of twenty-seven nonprofit organizations throughout
the United States. Julie has an extensive background in all aspects of Food
Service Management from fine dining to multi-unit management.
Throughout her career she has specialized in training and cultivating people
with limited employable skills. Her last post was as the Manager of the Ohio
Governor's Residence where she developed and directed an innovative
inmate hospitality program. Julie originally came to Colorado for school; she
completed her degree in Economics at the University of Colorado.
LaDawn Sullivan Director of Leadership and Equity
The Denver Foundation LaDawn Sullivan is Director of Leadership & Equity of The Denver
Foundation where her work demonstrates her commitment to promoting
social justice and social change in low-income communities of color for the
last 21 years. She currently manages programs that support emerging
leaders of color including the Executive Directors of Color Institute, Nonprofit
Internship Program, and EPIC (Elevating Philanthropy in Communities of
Color). She uses her expertise in resident engagement and inclusive
emerging leadership practices to work across the Foundation’s focus areas of
Basic Human Needs, Economic Opportunity, Education, and Philanthropic
Development. She serves as a mentor, cheerleader, connector, and leader,
bringing people and resources together to make connections to address
issues, supporting community-led/inclusive decision making, developing
alliances with other constituencies, and collaborating with other
organizations.

Katie Terrazas Hoover
Co-Chair of the Giving Project Alumni Community Chinook Fund Katie Terrazas Hoover was a cohort member of Chinook’s Spring 2017 Giving
Project, which collectively raised over $86,000, funding 19
Colorado grassroots social justice organizations. For the last year she has
served as the co-chair of the Giving Project Alumni Community and is a
member of the Chinook Program Committee and various other work groups.
In her day job, she’s at The Colorado Education Initiative working in
partnership with educators, schools, and districts across the state towards
systemic change, rooted in a vision of equitable outcomes for every student.
Katie is from Northwest Indiana, just outside of Chicago. Her experiences
growing up in a highly segregated area among working-class families seeded
her commitment to work towards racial and class justice. She has resided on
Northside of Denver for the last 8 years with her family.
Jeannine Truswell
President and CEO United Way of Weld County Jeannine has more than 30 years of experience in nonprofit management. She
has been the president and CEO of United Way of Weld County since 1986. Prior
to this Jeannine was the executive director for Weld County Partners and owned
and operated a private business. She was a part-time instructor at Aims
Community College in the Early Childhood and Child Care Department.
Abel Wurmnest Executive Director
Anschutz Family Foundation Abel Wurmnest is the Executive Director of the Anschutz Family Foundation. In
existence for more than 36 years, the Foundation supports Colorado nonprofit
organizations with a major focus on rural Colorado. The foundation encourages
endeavors that strengthen families and communities. There is a special interest
in self-sufficiency, community development and programs aimed at the
economically disadvantaged, the young, the elderly and the disabled. In his role
as executive director, Abel works with grantseekers and grantees to understand
and champion their work, in addition to providing leadership in many of the
Foundation’s initiatives, including Colorado Rural Philanthropy Days.
