Fred Dryer Biography
Fred dryer was born July 6th 1946, in Hawthorne California this south bay city is located just eighteen miles due west of down town Los Angeles where he attended Lawndale high school from 1960-1964. In 1965-1966 Fred attended EL CAMINO JUNIOR COLLEGE in Torrance, California before transferring to San Diego STATE UNIVERSITY on a football scholarship.
Fred was a first team “little all-American” and represented the “AZTECS” in the EAST-WEST SHRINE GAME and the HULA BOWL in Honolulu, Ha-waii. In January, 1969, Fred was the thirteenth over all pick in the NFL draft selected in the first round by the NEW YORK GIANTS. After playing three seasons for New York fred was traded to LOS ANGELES where he attained “ALL-PRO” honors playing right defensive end for the RAMS he retired from professional football in the summer of 1981.
In 1984 Fred landed the lead roll in the Stephen j. cannel series “HUNTER”. The show aired for seven seasons on NBC and elevated fred to world fame. While acting as detective “RICK HUNTER” Fred's’ interest turned to directing and producing he produced the sixth and seventh seasons of “HUNTER” to much success and critical acclaim.
Although NBC stopped airing original “HUNTER” episodes in April of 1991 detective Sgt. “RICK HUNTER” lives on in syndication to this day in over one-hundred countries around the world.
In the fall of 1991 Fred followed his NBC “boss” BRABDON TARTIKOFF to PARAMOUNT STUDIOS it was there that fred started “FRED DRYER PRO-DUCTIONS”. Before leaving paramount studios in 1993 “FDP” produced two NBC movies of the week “DAY OF RECKONING” shot entirely on loca-tion in BANGKOK, THAILAND and “THE RETURN OF HUNTER” both films were for NBC. Both films were ratings successes.
In 1994 Fred was the first network television star to venture into first run syndication with “LANDS END”. Shot on location in CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO this one-hour action show wowed television audiences and crit-ics alike with its off-center characters and story lines not to mention the stunning vistas and its feature film production value.
Fred resides in Los Angeles, California, has one daughter CAITLIN PADGETT and two grand children EMMA BO PADGETT and two month old ELLE GRAY PADGETT.
