For its annual summer exhibition, OPERA GALLERY MONACO has gathered some sixty paintings by the greatest masters of Modern Art, from Claude Monet to Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. This event is placed under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. OPERA GALLERY MONACO will donate a proportion of the sales proceeds of this exhibition to its partner MISSION ENFANCE, a Monegasque humanitarian organization specialized in educational help and assistance to children in need worldwide since its foundation in Monaco in 1991.

Bringing together Masters and the Prince

to help children in distress

Combining art and humanitarianism springs from the premise that both art and generosity express the very essence of Humanity, though it is through very different means. “From Impressionism to Pop Art” is more than an exhibition: it is a major event for which the greatest masters of modern art and Prince Albert II of Monaco join forces in favour of the cause MISSION ENFANCE has tirelessly championed for the past 20 years. Using the profits generated by the art market to give access to education to children in need… what a magnificent initiative!

The choice of « Masters » by OPERA GALLERY

After the success of the “Picasso exhibition” in the summer of 2011, in which 32 works were offered, this year OPERA GALLERY has selected the paintings of Masters considered by the art market to be genuine safe havens for international investors. Claude Monet painted “La Rivière” (see preceding page), while one century later, Andy Warhol made the portraits of the Prince and Princess of Wales (see below). The beginnings of Urban Art are also represented with Keith Haring’s “Untitled” acrylic on canvas (1984).

While Marc Chagall produced “King David”, a work on paper from 1948-49, Fernand Léger painted “Still Life” in 1946 with the flat surfaces of colour typical of the technique he developed after returning from his New York exile in 1944-45. Three works by Raoul Dufy sum up his oeuvre: “Maisons à Falaise”, a Fauvist painting from 1905, “Les Turfistes”, a 1938 watercolour from the period in which he depicted life on the racetracks, and “Le Quintette”, an oil on canvas from 1948. A large painting by Georges Mathieu, “Vaires” (1965) illustrates the impressive return to favour of the artist. The most sought-after paintings are Pablo Picasso’s “Buste d’homme à la pipe” (1969), Marc Chagall’s “Le grand cirque” (1969) and Joan Miró’s “Untitled” (1960). “The Family” by Fernando Botero and the “Fleurs sur un guéridon chinois” by Bernard Buffet are also among the “must-haves” for modern art collectors featured in this exhibition.

The High Patronage of

H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco

OPERA GALLERY, whose year-round events have made it one of the leading cultural establishments in Monaco, has been honoured with the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. While artists often contribute to charities, major galleries seldom take the initiative of donating part of their proceeds to humanitarian organizations. OPERA GALLERY’s decision to associate MISSION ENFANCE with its great summer exhibition deserves to be commended.

MISSION ENFANCE was founded in 1991 in Monaco and has chosen to be a field operator specialized in educational help and assistance to children in need. Its action is supported by private donations and sponsors of the Principality touched by the plight of children. Placed under the Honorary Presidency of H.H. the Sovereign Prince Albert II of Monaco, the charity’s goal is to create or strengthen the local school systems in order to make the schooling of children in difficult regions of the world effective. Presided by Anne-Marie Fissore, the organization has already helped over 500,000 children throughout the world. “We haven’t saved the Earth, or made the rain fall: we’ve only offered the moon to children in distress.” Domitille Lagourgue (Director, Mission Enfance).
