The mansionsscattered about Monte Estoril hint at itshistory as a haven for exiled Europeanroyals and nobility. Day 3: Sunday, March 13, 2011Estoril - Sintra - Cascais - EstorilBegin your day exploring the picturesquetowns surrounding Estoril. Visit themagnificent Baroque Palacio de Mafra, apalace, basilica and monastery. Next, visitthe town of Sintra, a UNESCO WorldHeritage site and the favorite summerresidence of Portuguese kings for sixcenturies. Hugging the beautiful shoreline,continue on to Cascais. While in Cascais - ascenic resort with coastal villas on asheltered bay - enjoy a stroll amongst themany specialty shops filled with Portuguese

handmade crafts. An entertaining eveningawaits you during dinner at Cafe Luso whereyou'll savor excellent Portuguese cuisineand delicious local wine. Geraniums, camellias andoleanders grow alongside fig, orange andalmond trees while brightly colored fishingboats bob on the seas. Your evening of enchantment begins in Barrio Alto - the pulsating heart of Lisbon's Fado district. Stepping through the doors of Cafe Lusois like walking into quintessential Portugal. Family-owned Cafe Luso occupies the charming former wine cellars of a 17th century palaceand is the most renowned Fado and folklore restaurant in Portugal. Founded in 1927, its history is the history of Fado music itself since allmajor singers and musicians have performed here. Traditional Portuguese cuisine ... savory local wines ... and the magical sounds of Fado,accompanied by the guitar and the viola. Fado songs tell stories of happiness and sadness, of love and jealousy. The songs of the Fado arebased on the feeling known simply as saudade.
