The Membership, Tri County Trap Club:  

Greetings All,  

Three months ago, the Board instituted a change in our shoot format which provided for our shooting all of our single targets and all of our handicap targets on the same field. This was done so that we are able to start 6 squads at a time thereby fully utilizing all 6 fields. In so doing, we have been able to complete our shooting day over an hour sooner than previously. This has been a great benefit to our volunteer workers and has helped us get a better head start on Sunday afternoon traffic. Also on the plus side, we have received a lot of positive comments that each squad is better able to control their own shooting pace.    

However, there is another added benefit in shooting in flights of 6 squads at a time. Because each flight takes about 55 minutes to complete, we can shoot 18 squads in just under 3 hours. By example, this last shoot we finished singles right about 12:30 PM having started a little bit after 9:30 AM. Even though we finished, we still had to take a 20 minute plus break to allow the scorers and loaders time for lunch.   

Consequently, we have decided to try another change which could shorten our day or allow us to shoot more squads in the same amount of time. Because it takes a little over 20 minutes to hand out the awards in the morning, we are going to try to move that process to the 20 minute lunch break. To do this, we are going to start shooting at 9 AM sharp. For the July shoot, we will play the national anthem at 8:50 AM. The first 6 squads should then immediately proceed to their fields and commence shooting as soon as all members are present. If you are on one of the first 6 squads, you do have the added responsibility of seeing that your squad is able to start on time by being at your field ready to shoot immediately after the national anthem.   

We will begin  the general meeting and award presentations 5 minutes after  the  last squad  finishes singles or at 12 noon whichever comes first. If you are one of the first 6 handicap squads, you should have your gun and gear ready to go to your field as soon as the awards are finished. It will be our goal to start handicap no later than 12:30 PM.   

It is not our intent to rush through the shoot. We want everyone to take their time and enjoy the day. However, by being more efficient with our use of our time we can keep the shoot day shorter to the benefit of our volunteer staff who worked very hard to make sure we have a good day shooting.

Next Shoot:  Will be held on July 2nd, 2017 and includes the Champion of Champions Shoot, see attachment at the end of the newsletter for details.  

Annual Nominations and election of officers:   Per  the By‐Laws, as outlined below, we will be accepting nominations at the July shoot.  There is a Nomination Ballot attachment at the end of the Newsletter – Please fill it out and turn it in at the next shoot or mail to the PO Box included on the Ballot.   From the By‐Laws: 

(e) Term of Office   (1) Term of office shall be one year.  (2) Nominations for officers shall be in July and August.  (3) Elections will be held in September. (the August 27th shoot is the September shoot) (4) Those eligible for nomination are any members in good standing for at least one year unless waived by the Board of Directors 

 As you can see above, the term of office is one year, but we have many officers that have now served  multiple  terms.    A  Nomination  Committee  will  soon  be  appointed,  to  make  a  final determination on nominees.  Volunteers of any background can be utilized, and experience with Excel and Word would be helpful.   Other helpful skills might  include cashiering experience and Website maintenance.   Scores/Points: Mike Wirz shot the only straight this month – a 50 at doubles.  We had Seven shooters who earned the maximum four points for a shoot this month ‐ Tony Benigno, John Carmadella, Bob Estrada, John Kinum, George Luther, Graeme Oldham and Al Yapelli.  Good shooting guys.   

 Monthly Awards Doubles  Award:   Mike Wirz  having  already  won  this  shoot  year,  the  June  4th  winner  of  the Shamrock Leather Double Shell Carrier was Eddie Woods for AAA Doubles, shooting a 49.  This award is rotated through the Doubles Classes, with the proviso that you can only win one per shoot year.   For the June 2nd shoot the award will go to D Doubles.  Monthly Buckles:  Cliff Rowe was the Sr. Vet Buckle winner for the June 4th shoot, with a score of 99.  The A Singles Buckle goes to Ray Reyes, with a score of 99.  The C Singles Buckle goes to Cliff Rowe, with a score of 99.  For the July 2nd shoot, Buckles will be awarded to the following events.  Senior Vet., AA Singles, and D Doubles.

Lucky Dog: Each month a score from 90 to 100 is drawn from a hat.  The shooter with the long run at that score wins $50.00, a tie splits the purse.  The June 4th Lucky Number was 96 of which there were Eight ‐ Joven Abrenica, Tony Bonofiglio, Russell Hawes, Graeme Oldham, JB Singh, Isaac Smith, Dale Sterling and Cliff Wagner.  Isaac Smith was the winner, with a long run of 81.  The other long runs were 50, 43, 53, 46, 35, 47 and 77 respectively.

Handicap  Champion  Award:    In  lieu  of  the  regular  $20,  we  are  now  awarding  an Uncirculated Silver Dollar ($30 – value) to the Handicap Champion ‐ the shooter with the high Handicap  Score  for  the month.  Ties will  be  decided  by  long  run  as  in  our  other classifications.    

For the June 4th shoot, John Kinum was the champion, shooting a 49 with a long run of 40 from the 27 Yard Line, edging out John Carmadella and Ron McMahan having long runs of 33 and 36 respectively.   

Hunter Awards:  We want to express a special thank you to Bill and Ruthie Hunter for providing us with a beautifully engraved silver money clip and silver dollar pendant.  Your generosity in providing these awards helps to make Tri County Trap Club special.  We are happy and grateful for your support!  

These awards are rotated through the events and classes to provide all members a chance to win.  For this shoot year, each member can win one award for each event.  Once for Singles, once for Doubles and once for Handicap, for a total of three Hunter Awards.  

The June 4th Hunter Money Clip winner for 22/24 Yard Handicap will go to George Luther with the high score of 48 and a long run of 37, edging out Ernie Hott and Bob Lopez with long runs of 26 and 27 respectively. The winner of Hunter Necklace for Lady’s Doubles goes to Kathy Cortopassi with a score of 44.  For the July 2nd shoot, the Money Clip will be awarded for 21 Yard Handicap and the Necklace for Lady's Singles.

Handicap Jackpot – with Guaranteed minimum payout:   It costs $2 to enter and you need to have participated in the handicap event for six shoots to establish your handicap distance and eligibility.  A score of 50 wins, and if there’s no winner, a score of 49 takes half the pot.  If the pot is below 

$50.00 for winners or $25.00 for half Jackpot winners, the club will make up the difference.  For the June 4th shoot, John Carmadella and  John Kinum split the half Jackpot at the 27 Yard  line, earning $31.75 each.   The following are Jackpots available prior to the July 2nd shoot.

 50/50 Raffle:  Tickets are $1.00 each or $5.00 for six tickets.  Half goes to the winner and  half  to  the  club.    June  4th’s  50/50  paid  $158.00  to  winner  Blaine  Kolarik.  

50.00 Gas Card Raffle: In appreciation of  the distance our members drive each month to shoot with Tri County Trap Club, each month every shooter's name is entered  into  a  drawing,  and  the  winner  selected  at  the  morning announcements, will receive a $50.00 Gas Card.  The June 4th winner was Vickie Crawford.

Banquet:  This year’s Banquet will be held immediately following the October shoot at Redlands Shooting Park.    Thank You for Pitching in!    Thank you to Mike Wirz for donating two boxes of shells. Thank you to Russ Hawes for donating a box of shells.    These donations are a welcome supplement to our monthly Raffle.

  Pre‐squad is the regular sign up line, but you have reserved your squad position in advance.    

Please provide all your events including the Lewis and Handicap Jackpot to Margot for speed Lane calculations. This will allow the tickets to be completed in advance.  Let us know your preferred or Regular Club Squad and Post number for Singles and Handicap and we'll do our best to assign those positions to you.  If you are shooting as a group, please put your preferred Squad/Post in one email or phone call.  There's no need to request Squad/Post positions for Doubles. We shoot anytime walk‐up Doubles until about noon. There is no pre‐squadding for the regular Doubles event, but we will need to know if you are shooting Doubles at the shoot.  Include any questions you may have regarding pre‐squadding in your emails or phone call.

Tri County Monthly Shell Carrier, Buckle, Silver Dollar and Hunter Awards

The Buckle and Hunter awards are rotated through the events. You can win one award for each event per Shoot-Year (one for Singles, one for Doubles and one for Handicap). The Shell Carriers are rotated through the Doubles Classes, and again you can win only one per Shoot-Year.

Everyone will receive a Golf Towel with the Tri County logo and the $5 Administrative fee will 

be waived.  

Champion of Champions Shoot 

The Champion of Champions shoot is an HOA event (Singles, Doubles and Handicap) and will run 

concurrently with July’s regular shoot.   

Qualifications: 

There are 3 ways to qualify.  In each of the three ways, you must have shot in 9 shoots from October 

Shoot of 2015 through June Shoot of 2017 or 9 out of the last 21 shoots. 

1. 9 Shoots (see above) plus you must have earned a 12 Point buckle in any prior year. 

2. 9 Shoots (see above) plus you must have earned 12 Points from 10/2/2016 through 6/4/2017 

(June Shoot). 

3. 9 Shoots (see above) plus you have won at least 1 Singles Event, 1 Handicap Event and 1 Doubles Event from October Shoot 2015 through June Shoot 2017 (21 Shoots). 

Shoot‐offs: 

Tie scores will require a shoot‐off, conducted at 

the August shoot, consisting of: 

1. 10 Singles targets 2. 10 Handicap targets 3. 10 Sets of Doubles targets 

Shooters will continue until tie is broken. 

Awards/Prizes: 

1. The HOA champion will receive a prize to be determined by the board.  It will be presented to 

the winner at the Annual Banquet in October (Yet to be determined). 

2. Prizes determined by the President, will be awarded at the August shoot, to the 

a. HOA class winners – AAA, AA, A, B, C and D (Camp Chairs with logo ‐similar to above). 

b. High Vet., High Sr. Vet., and High Lady (Camp Chairs with logo ‐similar to above). 

c. High Junior (Eagle Trophy – pictured above)
