Thoughts from Ken’s Quiver February 2018

Hello all Land-O-Lakes Members,

Here we are about half way through winter and so far the Thursday evening league is pretty slow.

Don’t spend your evening in front of the tube, come out and enjoy your club. The heat is on and the company is great.

The elections are coming up the first of April, and there are a few positions are available. This is your cub and here is an opportunity to take the next step in getting involved. You can contact me or any board members for more information.

Our banquet is coming up March 10 and Chef Josh has a few great items on the menu.

Our next board meeting is March 6th at 7:00pm. I would like to see more of our members attending and sharing their ideas to make the club even better.

Outdoorama at the Novi expo center runs March 1 through the 4th. The Michigan Bow Hunters has a booth and a youth archery range there and always appreciates our

members coming down to help, let me know if you are available and we can car pool down. Looking forward to seeing our members especially the new ones at the Club.

Details for all regular 3D Shoots: $10.00 for non-members, $9.00 with MBH discount. $8.00 for members, $5.00 for Seniors (60+) $20.00 Family Deal - 2 adults (16 and older) and kids in their home (15 and younger.) Children 12 and under are free Registration 8:00am to 3:00 pm Kitchen open all day Practice Range open Targets range from 10 to 40 yds. NO BROADHEADS 30 + 3D Targets with two shooting stakes, Pro and Hunter.

Hello LOL Family,

Here it is, another month in 2018 and another great issue of the Bowmen. I hope everyone is having a good year so far and getting out flinging some arrows. With it being February, membership renewal notices have been sent out and hope you all have received them.

For the Long Distance members I wanted to let you know that I screwed up on some of the notices. The price on the notice is incorrect. The correct price when renewing by mail or in person is $20 like last year not $25. If there are any questions or comments please email, call or text me.

Reminder that the Club Banquet is coming up and please participate in the Member Dessert contest if you are able to make it. Also elections are coming. Please if you have any plans on running for a position let myself or a board member know and we will get you on the ballot. Remember this club will not run without you. Hope to see into you guys at the club.

First Baptist Church Life member Ron Pittsley has passed away unexpectedly. Ron returned home to his heavenly father Sunday evening while in the hospital with family by his side. Ron was hospitalized after suffering an aneurysm and cardiac arrest in the days prior. If you did not know Ron you may recognize his name as the bowyer behind the Hunter's Niche line of traditional bows called Predator. Ron had a huge love for both archery and our club. I will always remember his smiles and joking nature. Ron's full obituary will be included in this months edition of The Bowmen.

SPECIAL REQUEST: Recently the Pittsley's had a garage fire. Destroyed in the fire was many family photos of him and his sons at the club, on hunts and other adventures. They have requested you check through any old photo albums you may have from years past and lend them to me. I will make copies and pass them along. I then will return your originals. Next Board Meeting

March 6th, 2018

7 pm

What: A series of 3D archery shoots at clubs representing local counties.

Why: To foster the brother and sisterhood of archery between the clubs and their respective members.

When: Each club will add a special shoot to their schedule or decide which previously scheduled shoot will be used as their Tri-County Cup event. Each cup shoot should be a one day only event. No cup events will be scheduled on the same day.

Winner: Cup will be awarded to the club with the most over all cup points.

Cup Rules: 1. Each visiting archer is worth 1 cup point. Visiting archer does not have to be an official "Member" of the club they are representing. Example - John is a member of club A and shoots at club B. John brings 3 friends. John is worth 4 cup points. 2. Cup points only count for paying shooters.

Example - John is a member of club A and shots at club B. John brings 3 kids. Club B does not charge for kids shooting. John is worth 1 cup point. 3. Cup points only count for visiting archers. Example - John is a member of club A. John shoots at club A. John is worth 0 cup points. 4. Archers representing multiple clubs can choose which one they prefer to receive their cup points. 5. Host club will collect the names and total count of visiting archers as part of their archer registration process. (We will make a uniform sign in sheet for us all to use.) Names and numbers should be turned in by midnight on the day of the event. This page will be updated with the cup counts as totals come in.

Shoot Rules: Each event will be a 3D archery shoot. Target type, number of stations, yardages, classifications and scoring systems will all be the decision of each individual host club. Archers do not have to keep score. There are no score based awards.

Trophy: A traveling trophy / plaque will be awarded to the winner and passed from club to club each year.

2018 Member Banquet

2018 Member Banquet & Awards Ceremony

WHEN: This year's member banquet will be held on Saturday March 10th, 2018. Doors will open at 4 pm for social hour with dinner at 6. Awards and raffle to follow. MENU:

Roast Venison, Rosemary Lemon Chicken, Cheesy Potatoes, Loaded Baked Beans, Green Bean Casserole, Garden Salad and Artisan rolls. Dinner will be provided by Land-O-Lakes Kitchen Director Josh Stellberger of Squealing Wheels Catering. WHY: This is a great night of fellowship and fun. Plus we have AMAZING DOOR PRIZES! There will be a raffle to benefit the club. We are accepting items for the raffle tables. If you would like to donate a raffle item please bring it to the banquet.

Each adult ticket purchased will be entered into a raffle for permission to turkey hunt on the club property. Winner 1 and 2 - May 7- May 12 Winner 3 and 4 - May 14 - May 20 Winner 5 and 6 - May 21- May 27 Winner 7 and 9 - May 28-31 *** Winners must be present at Banquet. *** Winners will have 2 areas to choose from Yellow/White Course or Red/Blue Course. *** Winners will be drawn in order and have choice of available weeks and areas. *** Members only. *** Only one winner per immediate family. *** Each winning ticket is valid for one turkey harvest. *** Club will not shut down and operate as normal during turkey hunt. (Youth, Open Shooting, 3D Shoot ect) *** Winners may switch weeks with each other or gift their week to another member. *** Archery only.

LICENSE INFO - Guaranteed-License Hunt Hunt 0234 HUNT Statewide* May 7 - 31 0234 *Hunt 0234 is a statewide hunting license valid for public and private lands, except public lands in Unit ZZ (southern Lower Peninsula). This license is valid to hunt Fort Custer military lands with permission. Hunt 0234 license will be sold as a leftover license with no quota and can be purchased throughout the entire spring turkey hunting season.
