President’s Letter Summer is here and the livin' is easy. At least that's what some people say and/or think. For many of us summer becomes a very busy time of year, now that graduations have occurred and schools are out. For many of us, that means family visits with sons, daughters, grandkids, and just good friends across the good ol' US of A! For me, June just started and I've hit 3 states already visiting family, kids and grandkids, plus an annual dance recital, and have current plans to be in 4 states, possibly 5, before the end of July. I am sure the same can be said for many of you. So, this month's message is really very simple. Enjoy the beginning of summer, enjoy your time with friends, family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren in some cases, and be safe in your travels. BUT, when you are here in Moore County take the time to find the ACT2 activity(ies) that you enjoy as well. ACT2 keeps the ball rolling here and sometimes that's the best choice for seeing friends and livin' easy. On another note, I would be remiss if I didn't mention all the great things I have heard about the June Sock Hop event. More than 50 people showed up and, from what I am hearing through the grapevine, the joint was hoppin'. So thanks to the planning team for making yet another ACT2 event the summer happening in Moore County. With that, enjoy your start of summer and, as always, I'll see you around town. Rick Achieving Community Together Satiating Stories ACT2 Newsletter Summer 2019 www.act2.club Satiating Stories will not meet during July and August. So, choose some books that interest you, and happy summer reading! We will resume in September.

Summer is here and the livin' is easy. At least that's what some people say and/or think. For many of us summer becomes a very busy time of year, now that graduations have occurred and schools are out. The Original Book Club

We will meet on Monday, July 22 at 12:30 PM at Susan Newsome’s home, 100 Sakonnet Trail, in Pinehurst #6, 621-3322. Our book this month is Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, by Gail Honeyman, a New York Times Bestseller, and Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick that is available in paperback.

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.

But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.

Discussion Leader: Patty Mattoon Refreshments: Dot Greenwood and Jean Casinella There will be no book club meeting in August. Please call Susan Newsome with any questions 621-3322.

Lunch Bunch

Join the ACT 2 Lunch Bunch at Dugan’s Pub on Wednesday, July 10 at noon. Please reserve beforehand so we will know to expect you. For anyone who has not eaten in Dugan’s, the address is 2 Market Square, Pinehurst. Dugan’s in in the ‘Village’ area- in the block where the Corner Market is on one end and the Potpourri Gift shop is on the other. Parking is on-street. Dugan’s features a pub menu (what else?). My husband and I eat there often, and I like most things on the menu. I will list my favorite foods and their prices; they do have many other entrées. Many of the appetizers are wonderful- the two crab cakes or the salmon points are $13.95; mac and cheese bites are $9.75. The salads are large, with two kinds of shredded cheese- topped with chicken the price is $10.95; with shrimp $12.95, a crab cake $12.95 or a large slice of salmon for $13.50. The soups are always good- they have a daily special or the pub soup or onion porter soup for $3.75 or $4.75. I love their fish and chips (served w/ your choice of potato, tartar sauce and a small serving of coleslaw slaw.) Two pieces of fried fish is $12.95, three costs $15.25. Also good are the Guinness stew at $13.75 or the shepherd’s pie at $15.95.

Community Bulletin Board I am trying something a little different this month. Instead of creating a separate Bulletin Board, I will try including the activities in the regular newsletter and you can choose to read them or not. As a reminder, as in past years all activities for July and August are included in a single SUMMER NEWSLETTER. The regular monthly newsletter will return in September. Please let me know and suggestions or comments that could make the newsletter work better for you.
