Vol 2. No 29 April 26, 2016 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Congratulations to our club members who made the April 23 Rotarians at Work Day a re- ality in Jackson. The reactions on Face Book about our clean- ing around the Interfaith Food Bank were far more than I ex- pected, several presidents of other clubs commented favora- bly on our labor. Art was, as al- ways, the locomotive of the whole event. Our President Elect came with his whole family and they did an excellent team work, Tina with the lawn mower, Mike with the weed whacker and the girls raking and haul- ing cut vegetation. I had forgotten my work gloves and Dirk was so nice as to lend me his right glove commenting that “one glove is better than none”. Since the job was enormous, Dave Mason made things easier with his nice cocktail of Round-up. The coffee and donuts were a welcome intermezzo, and after the work the remaining donuts and coffee went to the fire fighters crew in training burning an old inhabitable house. By now my battle with the computer is (almost) over, I sent the description of our projects and pictures to the District Awards Program Chair, completing it this week- end with our Rotarians at Work report. All that I still have to do is sending the SOS - Share our Success 2015-2016 final report, just need to complete the Foundation page. This has been the biggest challenge of my presidency! On May 7 the Rotary Leadership Institute 1 will take place in Cameron Park. It is highly recommended for new members to attend. Since I missed it the previous years for several reasons, I registered this time. In three weeks we will have our District Conference. Until May 1 you still can register for the meals at the original price, after this date a $ 5 late fee will be ap- plied. It also will be the last day of the hotel room block (Code SRTRY16) for Rotarians. If you want to avoid hotel costs contact Area 8 AG Joel Muller ([email protected], (775-741-9817) to stay with Reno or Spark Rotarians. To see the District Confer- ence program go to page three of this newsletter. In May, I will reach my 10 years in Rotary, it de- serves a celebration and I will have a surprise for my fellow club members. YIR Tom Moriarty and Roberta Ross were our speak- ers last week. They explained about the “righturn.club” program that the Kiwanis Club of Jackson sponsors at the Jackson Elementary School. It is a ten week program for obese chil- dren to teach them beer life styles and eang habits to help them grow into healthy and hap- py young adults.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Congratulations to our club members who made the April 23 Rotarians at Work Day a re-ality in Jackson. The reactions on Face Book about our clean-ing around the Interfaith Food Bank were far more than I ex-pected, several presidents of other clubs commented favora-bly on our labor. Art was, as al-ways, the locomotive of the whole event.

Our President Elect came with his whole family and they did an excellent team work, Tina with the lawn mower, Mike with the weed whacker and the girls raking and haul-ing cut vegetation. By now my battle with the computer is (almost) over, I sent the description of our projects and pictures to the District Awards Program Chair, completing it this week-end with our Rotarians at Work report. All that I still have to do is sending the SOS - Share our Success 2015-2016 final report, just need to complete the Foundation page. This has been the biggest challenge of my presidency! On May 7 the Rotary Leadership Institute 1 will take place

in Cameron Park. It is highly recommended for new members to attend. Since I missed it the previous years for several reasons, I registered this time. In three weeks we will have our District Conference. Until May 1 you still can register for the meals at the original price, after this date a $ 5 late fee will be ap-plied. It also will be the last day of the hotel room block (Code SRTRY16) for Rotarians. NEW AMADOR COUNTY MURAL FOR JACKSON

The Jackson City council has approved a new three panel

mural which will be painted on the concrete wall at the

Boyett Petroleum service station on the corner of 49/88.

The artist will be Rand Huggett who is the artist that paint-

ed the City of Jackson mural on the Fire Station wall. The

total cost of this project is about $20,000 and the city is

looking to community donations to help offset their por-

tion of this cost. The Jackson Rotary Club Board of Direc-

tors approved a $4000 donation to this project which will

be spread out over the next two years. Other organizations

that are being approached include the Amador Chamber of

Commerce, NSGW #31, and the Jackson Lions Club. The

project will be completed during the next six months

City of Jackson Mayor (and rotary club member) Keith

Sweet shows off the artist’s rendering of the new three

panel mural to be painted in downtown Jackson

ROTARY AT WORK DAY

Interfaith Food Bank April 23, 2016

This is the new freezer unit which the

club has designated $4,000 to enclose

with an RV style cover. This will help

keep the unit out of the weather and

save the Food Bank money in utility costs
