March is here and with it brings many upcom-ing ASPE Houston events for us. For starters, we have our next monthly general meeting on March 1st at the HESS Club.
Hamilton Engineering will be doing a presentation on Commercial Con-densing Water Heaters. So please be sure to RSVP online as usual.
Also, on the first week of March, the Houston Chapter, in conjunction with the Central Texas and Dallas / Ft. Worth Chapters will be hosting a Cer-tified in Plumbing Design Review Class for individuals interested in tak-ing the CPD Exam. For many years, the Houston Chapter’s very own Don-ald Taylor has administered a CPD review class for the Houston Chapter as well as the Dallas / Ft. Worth Chapter. This year he’ll have the class locally at his HOK office and also broadcast it via WebEx for the Central Texas Chapter and Dallas / Ft. Worth Chapters. This class has always been an excellent supplement for preparing for the CPD exam and consists of two days of instruction (March 4th & 5th) and one day for a

Registration for the 2017 Product Show and Technical Seminars will open online on March 1st. If you plan on attending, please be sure to regis-ter online and avoid waiting in line on-site. The Product Show will be held on April 5th and if you have not already heard, the Product Show is moving back to the Sam Houston Race Park this year. As usual we will hold Tech-nical Seminars during the day from 8:00am-4:00pm followed by the Prod-uct Show from 4:30pm-8:30pm. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions on the Product Show, please contact Brandi Baker at [email protected].
Lastly, it might not be until May, but we would still like to get the word out that the Houston Chapter will again be hosting a one day Revit Workshop. This year’s workshop will be held on May 11th. If you’re interested in at-tending, please visit www.aspe.org/revit2017.
online registration will be up and run-ning the beginning of March. So please plan on coming out and learning something not only at the product show but also at the Techni-cal Seminars.
This month Mr. Jeff Deal with Hamil-ton Engineering, Inc will be here on March 1st, 2017 to discuss “ Com-mercial Condensing Water Heat-ers and How Controls can keep them Efficient.” Hamilton Engi-neering and Oslin Nation Company will be sponsoring lunch for all Engi-neers, Contractors and Code offi-cials in attendance. The class will cover the differences in applying non-condensing versus fully condensing appliances in commercial applica-tions. Mr. Deal will focus on the ap-plications and the root causes for premature failures in the heaters and what controls can and will begin do-ing in the coming years to keep the heaters operating at peak efficiency, as well as notifying for prompt cor-rection when potentially life shorten-ing conditions occur.
Please remember that ASPE is a great way to obtain CEU’s and net-work with many of the most knowl-edgeable people in the plumbing industry. If there is a topic you would like discussed please let me know and I will try and set something up. There are openings available to be a presenter at one of our upcom-ing lunchtime general meetings.

I've learned something about ASPE that I was unaware of. ASPE has a page dedicated to our members who are in need. It designed to keep the rest of us informed and up to date regarding their is-sues. The page is called A S P E C a r e s . To find the ASPE Cares page go to www.aspe.org and on the Membership tab, click the
second link from the bottom to get there. Take a moment and see who's having a hard time. Take another moment to send an email, a get well note, call or write something on their Facebook walls to l i f t t h e i r s p i r i t s . If you know of someone that might benefit from this, someone going through difficulties that just a “howdy” might make them smile, pass it along and let the BOD know also.
Check out following NEW Houston Chapter mem-bers. If you know them give them a call to welcome them to “their” wonderful organization. If you don’t know them get ready to meet them at our March meeting because they’ll be eating lunch paid for by ASPE!!

Donald Taylor grew up in Purvis, Mississippi. He earned his bachelor’s of Science degree in Architectural Engineering Technology at the University of Southern Mississippi and began his career as a plumbing designer in Houston straight out of college. Initially designing different types of local commercial projects, two years later he advanced to the level of senior plumbing designer at one of the largest architectural/engineering firms in the world, where he gained experience working on international projects as well as learning to meet unusual criteria by a variety of clientele.
After nine years in Houston, Don decided to move to Norman, OK for a slower pace of life and to start a family. While there, he was a member of the Dallas‐Ft. Worth chapter and together they helped start the ASPE Oklahoma City satellite chapter, where Donald served as interim president for two years. Five years later, Don is back in Houston with his wife Jean and daughter Savannah.
Donald became a full member of ASPE in 2004 and has served as a business meeting delegate at the 2004, 2010, 2012, and 2014 National Conventions. He is currently serving on the Houston Chapter Board of Directors , and has served as both Chairman and Co‐chairman of the ASPE Houston Product Show. After earning his Certified in Plumbing Design designation, in a joint effort with a co‐worker he began helping others prepare for the CPD exam. Since 2006, Donald has regularly been proctoring CPD review classes for the Houston and DFW ASPE Chapters.
