Then in mid-March – a submicroscopic infectious agent from across the globe became the big road block that changed everything. A red flag brought everything to a halt for several months. When the yellow flag went up, the route had countless twists and turns as each new regulatory change was announced. Now, no one can exactly predict when the green flag will signify the end of the hazard on the track. Thankfully, the Liederkranz was in a good position throughout the past year, due to wonderful mem- bers and volunteers. Right now, I am happy to report to you, that the financial situation of the Club is 98.8% of what it was at this same time last year. This is an amazing statistic considering that the Club did not hold any festivals in 2020. The support of members who participated in the assortment of take-out meals, on-premise meals, and 3-days per week “meal deals,” helped cover day to day expenses. Ten dozen new members joined our Club in 2020 and almost 75% of current members have paid their 2021 dues so far. Numerous members have given generous donations. I’ve stated this previously; the Officers and Trustees continually monitor the ever -changing Covid sit- uation and government guidelines. We discuss and consider what we can do to keep holding activi- ties that provide opportunities for members to enjoy the Club. Unfortunately, quite a few of the winter events that typically help to make the cold more bearable, might not be able to take place. The cur- rent capacity rules for events are 10% of the normal indoor occupancy and 15% of the outdoor occu- pancy. Let me end with this. To those who have been coming to the Club – thank you. To anyone who has not stopped by, if you are up to it, please come out and enjoy the Club; the comfort and safety of members and guests is the priority each day. That unseen agent has not affected the quality of those beverages which the monks perfected. Enjoy the meal deal and the Gemütlichkeit. Raise a glass and offer a toast, to life and to laughter and song. The Liederkranz is still strong and the green flag is somewhere on the horizon. The LLK beer staff tries to satisfy customer interests at all times by providing a range of beers for disparate tastes, alcoholic content, and budgets. We know beer drinkers at the Liederkranz take their beer seriously! If you have concerns, suggestions, comments, or just wish to send ramblings on the subject, please send to Jim Weber at [email protected] or Matt Trout at [email protected]. See you at the club!

President’s Message Wow! What a year! Last January, the road in front of us in-

cluded all of the Club’s normal events plus a celebration to

commemorate the 140th anniversary of the founding of the

Liederkranz in 1880. Then in mid-March – a submicroscopic

infectious agent from across the globe became the big road

block that changed everything. A red flag brought everything

to a halt for several months. When the yellow flag went up, the route had countless twists and turns

as each new regulatory change was announced. Now, no one can exactly predict when the green

flag will signify the end of the hazard on the track.

Thankfully, the Liederkranz was in a good position throughout the past year, due to wonderful mem-

bers and volunteers. Right now, I am happy to report to you, that the financial situation of the Club is

98.8% of what it was at this same time last year. This is an amazing statistic considering that the

Club did not hold any festivals in 2020. The support of members who participated in the assortment

of take-out meals, on-premise meals, and 3-days per week “meal deals,” helped cover day to day

expenses. Ten dozen new members joined our Club in 2020 and almost 75% of current members

have paid their 2021 dues so far. Numerous members have given generous donations.

I’ve stated this previously; the Officers and Trustees continually monitor the ever-changing Covid sit-

uation and government guidelines. We discuss and consider what we can do to keep holding activi-

ties that provide opportunities for members to enjoy the Club. Unfortunately, quite a few of the winter

events that typically help to make the cold more bearable, might not be able to take place. The cur-

rent capacity rules for events are 10% of the normal indoor occupancy and 15% of the outdoor occu-

pancy.

Let me end with this. To those who have been coming to the Club – thank you. To anyone who has

not stopped by, if you are up to it, please come out and enjoy the Club; the comfort and safety of

members and guests is the priority each day. That unseen agent has not affected the quality of

those beverages which the monks perfected. Enjoy the meal deal and the Gemütlichkeit. Raise a

glass and offer a toast, to life and to laughter and song. The Liederkranz is still strong and the green

flag is somewhere on the horizon.

The LLK beer staff tries to satisfy customer interests at all times by providing a range of beers for disparate

tastes, alcoholic content, and budgets. We know beer drinkers at the Liederkranz take their beer seriously! If

you have concerns, suggestions, comments, or just wish to send ramblings on the subject, please send to

Jim Weber at [email protected] or Matt Trout at [email protected]. See you at the club!

TrusTees’ reporT

As everyone knows, things have been pretty quiet at the club for the last few

months. However, we did have a couple very successful work days in October and

November. The three outside porches on the Honberger House were replaced.

The kitchen coolers got new shelving and the rest of the kitchen was cleaned. Matt

Trout, Joe Rauch and others cleaned out the walk-in Beer Cooler. The grasses

along the road were cut down for the winter and the flower and herb gardens were

dug up and ready for spring. A few other items were address by the teams.

Thanks to all the volunteered their time and efforts.

We will be discussing what future projects we want to take on with the Executive Committee in January. In

these tough times we really want to be careful with our capital expenses. Although if anyone has a good sug-

gestion – please drop me an email or text.

I’m sure we will be getting back to normal at a pace that will be safe and makes sense.

Trustees Report By Mike Reitmeyer, Head Trustee

MEMBERSHIP CARD POLICY - As a member, it is your responsibility to validate your membership upon

entrance to the club either to the Door Attendant or the Bartender on duty - even if you may be a long time

member. This practice, along with signing-in of nonmembers is not meant to be an annoyance to you, but

are requirements by the PA Liquor Control Board who govern our private club status. Please be prepared to

offer your membership card each time you enter whether or not you feel the door attendant or bartender

should know you. Our growing membership makes this practice even more important. Guests should show a

valid driver's license or state id when signing in.

Chorus Notes

Happy 2021 everyone!

The Liederkranz Chorus has not met as a group

since mid-March. All rehearsals and singing en-

gagements were canceled, which was very difficult,

but a necessity due to what was happening all

around us. In order to keep unified and to keep in

touch with one another, a weekly email was sent to

all members as a way to keep everyone informed of

what was happening at the club and helping those

who felt isolated. At this current time, the chorus is

not going to resume rehearsals as we normally

would do mid-January. We are taking a “wait and

see” approach as to what transpires in the next couple of months and then

will reevaluate the situation. Once we can start to sing together again, we

welcome any new members to come and join us. Even though all our fests,

concerts and activities were canceled, we were successful in selling many

of our fundraising cookbooks thanks to Barry Waltz, Lori DePorter and Re-

nate McElheny. For all the new members that have been inducted recently,

the cookbooks are available at the bar for $10 and all proceeds go to the

chorus. Please consider buying one or two… there are many great authen-

tic German recipes from club members. The Liederkranz Chorus wishes

everyone a Frohes neues Jahr! 2021 just has to be a better year than

2020! Let’s hope that we can once again return to singing together, raise

our glasses to sing Prosit and enjoy one another’s company face-to-face!

Peace, Love and Music be with you all!

HOBBY CHOR NOTES

There is not much to report since we haven’t sung since last March and we are now lamenting the passing of the Christmas season and all that wonderful music that eve-ryone would have liked to sing. So now we look forward to rehearsing in time to per-form by Spring. Our officers did meet three times since September and started to think of song selection and other technical details related to rehearsals. Our songbook is teeming with fine numbers and soon our voices will again carry those tunes. We welcome new voices, so come join us when we announce our rehearsal schedule in a month or two. Gary Kirchner, Vice Pres. Tim Haertter, Secretary Dave Reinfried, Treasurer George Grab, Librarian Joe Rennick, Director on Accordion Bill Eichenser, Chorleiter on Guitar Bob Borst, Accompanist on Piano Bernie Klingenmaier, Music Committee Chair Dr. Lou Neureuter, Gewandmeister

Vieles Gluck zum Neun Jahr! (much luck for the New Year) from the Alleweil Jung.

The post card is an original post card from WWII with a little modification to reflect how we all feel right now.

The good thing about the New Year is that we can look forward to putting the past behind and looking forward. I

know I am looking forward to seeing what the New Year will bring. We may have gained a few extra pounds and

our brains may have lost some of our dance steps, but it will be exciting to gather together again, to relearn our

dances and learn a few new ones too.

So, let us all look forward to seeing each other at the Liederkranz and all the club events we missed this past

year. We hope you will be just as excited to see us too!

HOW ARE WE DOING ON MEMBER RENEWALS?

As everyone knows this is not a normal time with all that is going on in the World, the US, Penna, and the

Liederzranz.

But with all the limitations and schedule changes, we still have our dues renewal from Nov thru Feb.

The club is doing it’s best to accommodate the member when paying his/her 2021 dues.

This year we added the PayPal feature for one to use a credit system in addition to the US mail and in person

paying at the club.

Since I process all the dues on the back end, I do get to know how we are doing on membership renewals,

So I will give you some numbers as of 01/12/2021 - numbers do change every day

Of the paying members, we are at 74% paid as of above date, about 8 to10% below last year at this time

Proposed Members = 33

Inactive members from 2020 - 158 dropped as of Dec 31st 2020

Honorary Members = 31

Not paid as of above date = 513

Of the paid members so far, 32 % pay using PayPal

Of members using Pay Pal, 73% elect to have their 2021 sticker mailed to them

Of course, our goal is to have all 513 not paid to date back with us for 2021

And for the members who have paid their dues, we thank you for your support.

Another note - Newsletter viewing on line vs mail, 70% elect to view on line - based on paying members to date

We thank you for being part of this great club and hope you will be with us next year.
