Reminder: Any club member, new or old, is welcome to attend a board meeting. The January minutes and treasurer’s report were approved. Bill will be calling an Auditing committee meeting and will report the result in March. Standing Committee Reports Membership (Mike Kalscheur) Mike reported we added four new members and have a total membership of 192. About 25 of these have not renewed for 2020 and will be dropped from the membership list on March 1 if they don’t pay by then. President's Message It was nice to have breakfast with several of the club members prior to the LieNielsen event on Saturday, February 1. Also nice to see some additional members at the actual event. As always it was nice to drool over all the LieNielsen tools. One of their workers provided some good information about sharpening including the use of sandpaper for initial flattening of the back and bevel of the chisels/plane blades. Jeff Miller had the most interesting piece of equipment. He fashioned a device to use a hand made scorptype blade to peel shavings from a bowl, both circular and oblong. I think there will be a picture in the newsletter showing one of the bowls. He hopes to further refine the use of this device to sculpt out chair seats. A couple more activities, the Milwaukee Woodworking Show and a trip to Bull Valley Hardwoods, are coming up soon. Please see our website or the activities section of this newsletter for more information. Our meeting this month will be another demonstration on how to do something wood related. Ed Buhot will be discussing and showing his inlay technique. Ed has made some very nice inlay pieces through the years. Look forward to seeing you there. General Meeting February 17Ed Buhot String Inlay

The focus of the String Inlay presentation will be toencourage members to think about using string toenhance their projects and remove some of themystique about creating and adding string to projects.

The presentation will discuss the tools, methods andmaterials used to add string (thin lines of wood) to aproject.

During the presentation a channel will be created in awooden drawer face to receive the string. The stringwill be inserted into the channels of the drawer face.

Along the way we will discuss sources for inlay tools, material, options for creating string, problems, hintsand little issues that might be encountered whenadding string. If time provides, examples of addingstring inlay beyond the basics will be touched on.

ToysThe toy committee has lined updates for both the spring and thefall toy making workshops. Theywill be held on Saturday, May 9and Saturday, October 10. Theywill be held at the Woodcraft Storein Woodridge, IL. The workshopswill begin at 9am and go until

around 3pm. Sign up sheets will be passed aroundcloser to the actual dates. Look forward to continuing

to have the very good participation and camaraderiethat we have had in the past. Also look forward toseeing the toys in November that everyone has beenmaking in their own shops.

Remember the TV show with Canadians Rick and Dad doing router projects? I have a VHS tape of someepisodes, that's how long ago it was. They have a huge forum showing 136,000 members with 651,000posts in dozens of catagories. It's a good place to find manuals for routers and other woodworking tools.
