About the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation

The mission of the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation is to foster enduringrelationships that build advocacy and support of Hudson Valley Community College. Itdoes so, in large part, by securing private funds to supplement the college’s traditionalrevenue sources.

Since 1983, the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation has provided support forthe college and its students. Founded by a dedicated group of volunteers leaders whounderstood the need for affordable access to educational opportunities, a proud traditionof commitment and caring began and remains today at the core of the Foundation’smission.

A not-for-profit, independent 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 1983, the Foundation isgoverned by a Board of Directors who participate in and oversee the Foundation’sphilanthropic activities, which are designed to produce a positive and beneficial impactupon the college, its students, and the communities it serves.

While committed to raising funds for student scholarships, the Foundation secures privateresources to provide support for faculty enrichment programs, new and innovativeacademic initiatives, student development activities, enhanced student support services, cultural programs, equipment purchases, facility improvements, and technologyenhancements. The Foundation has supported many initiatives through the generoussupport and assistance of faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and corporate partners in thecommunity.

Economic uncertainty and increase demands on tax dollars are diminishing public supportfor community colleges. As a result, community colleges are turning to privatephilanthropy as a necessary resource to ensure continued excellence in teaching andlearning. Faced with dwindling public funding, the college faces the need to diversifyfunding streams in order to prepare students to meet the challenges of the future andbecome the leaders of tomorrow.

Philanthropic support to Hudson Valley Community College and its charitable foundationtotaled $1,395,008 during the 2008-09 academic year.
