COMPANY: RCO Law

YEARS IN THE FIELD: 22 years

◊ What do you like least about your career?

Keeping billable hours—No matter how many years I keep billable hours it is still the least favorite

part of my job. I would love to be able to just get the work done without documenting my hours.

◊ What is your favorite pastime?

Traveling, hiking, bicycling, and just relaxing with my family. I look forward to doing more of this in

retirement. I also enjoy furniture refinishing and have recently done my first few pieces with chalk

paint and wax.

◊ If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be?

On a beach with my family. It seems that beach vacations are the most relaxing times I have spent

with family. It is also one of the few places that my 23 year old son is always eager to go with me.

◊ What is one of your pet peeves?

Someone asking me questions before my morning coffee. I’m really not a morning person and really

struggle with conversation before coffee. Hence, this is why my husband usually brings me my

morning coffee in bed.

◊ What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Anything with nuts and caramel. Strangely enough I don’t care for chocolate ice cream.

◊ Name three things you have in your refrigerator.

Eggs, mangos and avocados. If you dig deep enough you can always find a cold beer.

◊ What is the last movie you saw in a theater?

The Zookeeper’s Wife. I don’t tend to watch movies much but prefer live theater.

◊ How would you describe yourself to others?

A little ADD and impatient. I’m working on those things…. I also have a lot of empathy for

others and enjoy working with homeless families.

◊ Name three things you have always wanted to do. 1. Live on the water (I’m working on this one).

2. Travel abroad (I’ve been to England, Ireland and France but have plenty more on my list.)

3. Spend a week bicycling the Great Allegheny Passage. (I had the trip planned for June but broke

my collarbone 2 weeks before the scheduled trip. I hope to do it next year.) ◊ What one piece of advice would you give to those considering a career as a paralegal?

It really is a wonderful career with great opportunity. Consider the area of law that you might

really enjoy and then find some good people to work with. It really is those people that you work

with on a daily basis that can bring so much pleasure and accomplishments to the profession. If you

really don’t enjoy what you are doing, find what you do enjoy and make a change.
