La Galerie Tanit présente « Lucy in the Sky » une sélection de toiles récentes de Ghassan Zard.

Cette exposition met en lumière différents leviers théoriques et réflexions picturales, leurs genèses et le développement à l’œuvre dans la pratique de l’artiste.

Le parti pris scénographique se lit avant tout comme un parcours, il invite le spectateur à déambuler aux travers d’expériences visuelles aux discours multiples. Différentes écritures plastiques se croisent, s’interpellent pour toujours traduire la mobilité des états d’âmes, à la fois emprises de fluidité aérienne et aquatique, ou de dynamiques plus terrestre et souterraine.

Tour à tour les toiles évoquent des points de vue panoramiques sur un paysage nébuleux rappelant « le pont flottant des rêves ». Certaines font passages, se rapprochent du motif devenu chimère irreprésentable pour nicher le regard dans l’en-dedans organique d’une matière en devenir.

Car s’il est avant tout question de peinture dans toute la spontanéité du geste picturale, il est aussi question de condition humaine, du devenir disparition de l’homme. Là est toute la pensée élaborative de Ghassan Zard. En effet, son approche s’ancre dans un questionnement fécond autour de l’acte de création comme conjuration de la perte d’un être cher. Une pensée créative, presque magique qui symboliquement pourrait combattre les souvenirs de violence et de souffrance ancrés au plus profond de l’inconscient.

Véritables traces silencieuses de consolation, rêveries qui chercheraient leur forme sous des aspects éphémères - dans un cycle sans fin entre mort et renaissance - cette série de toiles trouve sa correspondance musicale dans le Chant de la terre1, symphonie avec voix composée par Gustav Mahler. L’artiste a su trouver dans ce poème les structures narratives de son discours pictural. L’intégralité de l’exposition – au-delà de ses possibilités formelles, plastiques et poétiques – suivrait de ce fait les différents thèmes abordés par Mahler : la vanité du cycle de la vie, la superficialité de la beauté et de l’amour, la poignance de la douleur de l’âme, la perte, l’oubli.

Dans cette volonté de transcender la douleur par la beauté de la création artistique, Ghassan Zard nous invite à une déambulation picturale à travers l’imagination matérielle des éléments : eau, air, terre, feu, font liants et pigments, font fondements aussi à la base de toutes choses.

Par ce mouvement de retour à la genèse de la matière et à l’en-dedans des émotions humaines chaque toile est murmure, chant. Elles deviennent ces leviers abstraits tentant de comprendre la naissance des choses et leur devenir, pour mieux cerner - ou peut-être cerner autrement - les débuts de cet homme qui est et devient, en éprouvant, en s’exprimant, en inscrivant, en souffrant, en créant.

Retour aux prémisses donc, à la naissance de l’homme et avec lui de l’humanité entière, « Lucy in the Sky », comme référence à Lucy, la première, la pionnière, symbole de l’homme qui naît à l’humanité, pour en ériger la condition…Eternellement.

Lucy in the Sky

The Tanit Gallery presents "Lucy in the Sky", a selection of recent paintings by Ghassan Zard. This exhibition highlights various theoretical levers and pictorial reflexions, their genesis and the development at work in the artist's practice.

The scenographic bias could firstly be read as a journey, it invites the spectator to wander through visual experiences expressed via multiple discourses. Different plastic writings intersect, call each other to always translate the mobility of the states of souls, marked at the same time by aerial and aquatic fluidity, or by more terrestrial and subterranean dynamics.

In turn, the canvases evoke panoramic points of view of a nebulous landscape recalling "the floating bridge of dreams". Some cross over, come close to the motif which has itself become an irrepresentable chimera, to finally nest the gaze in the organic inside of a material to become.

For if it is primarily a matter of painting in all the spontaneity of the pictorial gesture, it is also a question of human condition, of the becoming disappearance of man. Here is the whole elaborative thought of Ghassan Zard. Indeed, his approach is anchored around a fecund questioning of the act of creation considered as a process of warding off the loss of a loved one. It is about a creative, almost magical thought, that symbolically could combat the memories of violence and suffering anchored in the deepest layers of the unconscious.

True silent traces of consolation, reveries that seam searching for their form under ephemeral aspects - in an endless cycle between death and rebirth - this series of canvases finds its musical correspondence in the Song of the Earth1, a symphony with voice composed by Gustav Mahler. The artist has successfully found in this poem the narrative structures of his pictorial discourse. The integrity of the exhibition - beyond its formal, plastic and poetic possibilities- looks following in the various themes handled by Mahler: the vanity of the cycle of life, the superficiality of beauty and love, the poignancy of the soul’s pain, the loss, the forgetfulness.

In this desire to transcend pain by the beauty of artistic creation, Ghassan Zard invites us to a pictorial wandering through the material imagination of the elements: water, air, earth, fire, making binders and pigments, as they also make fundaments at the base of all things.

Through this movement of getting back to the genesis of matter and to the insides of human emotions, each canvas is a whisper, a song. They all become those abstract levers trying to understand the birth of things and their becoming, in order to better define - or perhaps to define differently - the beginnings of this man who is and who becomes, by experiencing, expressing himself, inscribing, suffering, creating.

Getting back, thereby, to the premises, to the birth of man, and beyond him to the birth of the whole humankind, "Lucy in the sky" should be a reference to Lucy, the first, the pioneer, the symbol of man born in humanity, in order to erect the human condition ... Eternally.
