ENSIS-AJ Series Fiber Laser Machine, which supports v-mix v-lot production and a wide processing range

AMADA HOLDINGS CO., LTD. (President Tsutomu Isobe) won the Agency of Natural Resources

and Energy Director’s Award at the 36th Energy-Efficient Machinery Awards hosted by the Japan

Machinery Federation (JMF). The company’s winning product was the “ENSIS-AJ Series Fiber Laser

Machine, which supports v-mix v-lot production and a wide processing range.”

The Energy-Efficient Machinery Awards commend companies and corporate groups that are deemed

to have contributed to promoting the efficient use of energy through the development and practical

application of outstanding energy-saving machines for industrial use. These awards have been given out

on an annual basis since 1980. Particularly outstanding energy-saving machines are selected and

recognized with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Minister’s Award, Agency of Natural

Resources and Energy Director’s Award, and/or JMF’s President Award. On this occasion, AMADA’s

product was commended with a total of 13 awards: one METI Minister’s Award, two Agency of Natural

Resources and Energy Director’s Awards, and 10 JMF’s President Awards.

AMADA’s winning product, the “ENSIS-AJ Series Fiber Laser Machine, which supports v-mix v-lot

production and a wide processing range,” represents a further evolution of fiber laser machines with

high energy-saving performance that has been achieved based on AMADA’s unique technologies, and

from the perspective of practical operation at worksites, it delivers next-level processing while only

requiring a minimal amount of equipment setup.

The technological features of this machine are as described below.

(1) ENSIS technology (variable beam control unit)

AMADA Group has developed the “ENSIS-2000,” an original oscillator that is equipped with its

unique technology called a “variable beam control unit.” This has enabled the company to successfully

develop a machine that carries out processing “in accordance with the processing target,” “automatically,”

and “in a variable manner.” A high energy density, ultra-fine beam shape that is suitable for sheet metal

processing is used during the high-speed cutting of thin sheets, and a beam shape similar to that of a

CO2 laser is used during the cutting of thick sheets. This makes it possible to process thick sheets with a

2 kW oscillator, which had previously been impossible. Processing with an output of 2 kW even during

the processing of thick sheets enables the device to save a significant amount of energy.

(2) Wide-range continuous automated operation

Since the “variable beam control unit” makes it possible to alter the beam quality and shape, the device

can provide continuous processing of thin-to-thick sheets without the lens change that had been required

for conventional machines. Furthermore, peripheral devices with extensive variations are offered so that

the device can handle a variety of production formats. Thus, continuous automated operation is possible

even when sheet thicknesses are changing.

(3) Realization of high-powered high-quality laser beam

In addition to the energy saving effect that is a characteristic of fiber lasers compared to CO2 lasers, the

ENSIS-AJ series achieves further energy saving effect of approximately 39% based on the ability to cut

with the 2 kW power during thick sheet processing, which had required the equivalent of 4 kW power in

the case of conventional fiber lasers. Also, in regard to (power) receiving capacity, introducing this

machine provides a considerable amount of energy savings, since a 32% reduction has been achieved

compared to 4 kW fiber lasers.

The ENSIS-AJ series machine, which is equipped with unique technologies, surpasses conventional

fiber laser machines in terms of energy saving performance. Customers who carry out thin sheet

processing on a regular basis and require thick sheet processing from time to time, no longer need to

introduce a laser machine equipped with an exclusive 4 kW oscillator, and thus the ENSIS-AJ series

machine is particularly efficient when applied in such cases.

Therefore, the ENSIS-AJ series device can be considered as an energy-saving machine that redefines

the standard of what is considered as “highly energy efficient fiber laser machines.”

In recent years, a higher demand has appeared for devices that support v-mix v-lot production. As the

ENSIS-AJ series machine can handle such production, an extensive and steady demand is expected in

the sheet metal processing field for this kind of machine.
