Capgemini works for more than 45 years with the actors of the aeronautics, the spatial and the defense in their programs of complex system integration and digital transformation. Among the typical missions led by the group Capgemini for these industrial actors:

The value chain globalization at European and worldwide levels The implementation of services with added value for the end users The implementation of an industrial model fostering sharing of risks with the partners

(generalization of the international collaborative work and the acceleration of the global digital model)

The technical compliance and alignment following the new European harmonization directives.

Examples of Capgemini Aerospace projects:

• For the CNES: within the frame of the Curiosity program regarding the planet Mars observation, Capgemini has developed the application system dedicated to the data recovering and processing for the scientific community as well as the access portal to these data. The system developed by Capgemini allows retrieving the data from the NASA and perform a first level of processing of such data to the scientists in charge of the management of SAM and CHEMCAM instruments. These data are made available to the worldwide scientific community via a secure Internet portal also developed by Capgemini. There are strong time constraints in the data processing because they have to allow making daily choice about programming the Rover and on the research priorities. To answer to these challenges, Capgemini has deployed software and material architecture from its experience on mission controls, whose main function is to manage the progress of the spatial missions.

• For the European Space Agency (ESA): Capgemini in charge of the project management of the ground segment of their geo-localization program for search and rescue of people in distress. By developing the ground segment "Search and Rescue" for the Galileo constellation, first European System of high precision positioning, program of and financed by the European Union, Capgemini has contributed to strengthen the speed and the reliability of interventions by the rescue authorities, anywhere in Europe. Indeed, this new distress alarm system based on localization data allows rescue authorities to come quickly in assistance to people in distress in ten minutes, against several hours with the previous system, in operational conditions above 99.8%

Geolocation testing lab to boost ITS Un laboratoire d'essais en Géolocalisation pour dynamiser

les ITS

GUIDE is a Geolocation Testing Laboratory

Its activities are directed towards the validation of satellite

positioning solutions hybridized in most sectors of transport.

GUIDE offers a wide range of services with test protocols

optimized to welcome on its test platforms the largest

number of solution developers.

The laboratory is endowed with sophisticated means to

provide Devices Under Test with accurate frames of reference.

Test campaigns are planned either by simulation within its lab

premises or by live testing to assess real situations: urban

areas, roads, rail, in the water, in the air.

GUIDE pools the collective know-how of all its members to

provide the best expertise to its clients. The founding

members are all recognized as eminent specialists in GNSS

fields.

In the case of ITS, as our road maps supplanted by Electronic

Navigation Devices "GPS", the geolocation-based functions

are revolutionizing applications with growth rates announced

as exceptional.

The European satellite infrastructures (Galileo & EGNOS)

secure the usage of these radio navigation signals.

For example, Public Works expect centimetrics positioning.

Although controversial (ECOTAXE), the electronic toll systems

using satellite geolocation - LKW Maut (DE), MYTO (CZ), HU-

GO (HU), Viapass (BE) - are being deployed in many countries

framed by norms ensuring International interoperability.

In 2017, the new European vehicles will be equipped as

standard with a geolocalized warning device called eCALL to

speed the arrival of aid.

Contingency plans are multiplying to track and trace sensitive

freight such as the transport of hazardous materials.

Thus, the accuracy and integrity of the geolocation data

become strategic. The skill to use these technologies promises

great opportunities. New entrants are emerging and will be

soon able to compete with well-established companies.

satellitaire LKW Maut (DE), MYTO (CZ), HU-GO (HU), Viapass

OCEAN FORECASTING, A KEY SKILL FOR THE MARITIME

TRANSPORT

COPERNICUS is the EU Earth Observation and Monitoring Programme. The Copernicus Marine

Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) opened in May 2015 has been entrusted by the European

Commission to Mercator Ocean, the French Global Ocean Analysis and Forecasting Center.

Pierre Bahurel, CEO of Mercator Ocean : “ The Copernicus Marine Service provides a free and open

access to regular and systematic reference information on the physical state and on marine ecosystems for

the global ocean and the European regional seas (currents, sea surface height, sea ice extent,

temperature, marine optics, nutrients, etc.). This capacity encompasses satellite and in-situ observation-

derived products, the description of the current situation (analysis), the prediction of the situation a few

days ahead (forecast), and the provision of consistent retrospective data records for recent years (re-

analysis), a free cutting-edge service for any maritime transport professionals.”

MARITIME TRANSPORT? CMEMS data are directly or indirectly useful to:

- Shipping companies

- Routing companies

- Developers of maritime smartphone apps and decision-making tools on board (professional, leisure)

- Safe and Rescue agencies

- Maritime safety agencies (…)

The CMEMS counts up to 5500 registered users in September 2015.
