PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE NEEDS TO EXLAIN INFRA-RED THERMOMETER

DONATION

CASTRIES, Saint Lucia –Wednesday, October 29, 2014 – The United Workers Party (UWP)

seeks urgent clarification on comments made by the President of the Senate, Mr. Claudius

Francis, regarding the donation of two infra-red thermometers presented to the Government

during the special sitting of the House last week Thursday.

At which sitting, the President suggested that the donation was a personal gesture from him to

the Government and the People of Saint Lucia. As contrary media reports have identified Mr.

Dennis Ishmael as the true donor, we need urgent clarification on this issue. Mr. Ishmael, an

Atlanta-based Saint Lucian has made a considerable number of donations to the less fortunate on

Saint Lucia. If the media reports are correct, then Mr. Ishmael deserves gratitude of and

recognition from the people of Saint Lucia.

While this issue lingers, it calls into question the integrity of Mr. Francis and creates doubt in the

minds of Saint Lucians. We are therefore requesting that the President clear the air on this matter

immediately.
