Dear Parents/Guardians: We hope you had a wonderful summer break that was relaxing and memorable for you and your family. We are extremely excited about the upcoming school year 2019-2020 and look forward to collaborating with you in supporting the growth and success of all students. While this initial newsletter contains some important information below we encourage you to continue accessing school information whether it be through monthly Newsletters, Twitter, our school Website and various other mediums. You will receive a great deal of paper information and forms on the first day. We strive to be as paperless as much as possible. The majority of our communication with you will be through email. Firstly I’d like to acknowledge the changes in the school. We have 2 new teachers that have joined us and 1 that is returning. Ms. Park and Ms. Eynolhagh are joining us and Ms. Bouchard is returning to Presteign. We are so lucky to have all of them join an amazing teaching team. They will be introduced at Curriculum Night which is scheduled for Tues., Sept 24 th . I’m also very excited to announce that Ms. Lucy Giannotta has retired! We wish her well as she transitions to a new chapter of her life. As well, we are excited to announce that our new Superintendent is Ms. Nadira Persaud. She is looking forward to leading, learning and supporting our network of schools. All classes will be entering and exiting from the west side of the building, with the exception of Ms. Grassi that has a separate entrance door to her room. Please ensure that the front doors are kept clear to permit bussed students to enter and exit the building. Students entering from the front will be marked late as you are expected to be on time and in the line-up each morning. Defer to teachers for direction at all times. We have painted lines on the west pavement to ensure students are lining up prior to entering in the building. We are establishing safe behaviour in doing so. In addition, we have newly painted lines for our Kiss and Ride area. I will be attending to this area to ensure that it is being used respectfully and properly. If you plan on using this area as a drop/pick up area, please ensure that you read through the procedures as outlined in this issue of our newsletter and contained in the first day package. Please see the attached list of teaching staff and room allocation that will be provided on the first day in your parent handbook. There have been some changes over the summer that could not be foreseen. Finally I’d like to thank parents in advance for your support in completing the important package of forms that are now available digitally. We have gone paperless! Having the most updated and accurate information on our students is critical to ensure their safety and appropriate care at all times. Please review and complete the various forms that will be on-line. You can access all these forms on line and submit them to us. (e.g. Medical, Emergency Contact, Media Release, etc.,). It is an honour to serve the students, staff and parents of the Presteign Heights Elementary School. I wish you all a rewarding school year ahead! Dear Parents/Guardians:

We hope you had a wonderful summer break that was relaxing and memorable for you and your

family. We are extremely excited about the upcoming school year 2019-2020 and look forward to

collaborating with you in supporting the growth and success of all students. While this initial

PRESTEIGN KISS AND RIDE ONLY (NO PARKING)

NEW!

The safety of our students is very important

to us; therefore, we ask for your support and

cooperation when dropping off or picking up

your child(ren) from school.

All Presteign students are within WALKING distance of the school.

We encourage all students to make arrangements to walk to and

from school. However, if you are receiving a ride, please note

the following:

Rear of School “Kiss and Ride” Loop – If you are dropping your child(ren) at the

Kiss ‘n Ride during morning drop off and pick up times, we ask that you pull your

vehicle all the way to the gate, and opening in the fence.

We ask all parents to be good neighbours and follow the routines listed below in

order to ensure the safety of our students in the kiss and ride loop and on the

streets near the school. Please be mindful of the following:

1. Obey all street signs (No stopping or U Turns in front of the school).

2. Do not block the flow of traffic on the street to turn into the kiss and ride

loop.

3. Do not use the bus zone for dropping off or picking up your children which is

located in the front of the school.

4. Do not use the private driveways of residents in the neighbourhood to turn

around or block them.

5. Do not park in front of the fire hydrant on the street.

6. We are asking parents to only use the kiss and ride loop and ensure that

parents are not parking there at any times. This is a no idling and fire route.

7. The parking spots are only for TDSB staff. We do not have enough space for

our own staff to arrive to work if parents occupy the space. Please do not block

them from entering or exiting the lot.

The Kiss and Ride program is intended for parents who are dropping off or picking

up their child(ren).

It is NOT intended for individuals who want to leave their vehicle to walk their

child(ren) to the door or to assist their child(ren) to leave the car. If you want to

accompany your child to the door or the Kindergarten door, you must park your

vehicle on the street, in a legal parking spot and walk your child to the school yard

or the Kindergarten class.

In an effort to make drop‐off and pick‐up as orderly and safe as possible we ask

that drivers respect the following rules:

1. Obey the road rules, crosswalks, and speed limits.

2. Have your child(ren) enter and exit the vehicle from the passenger side of

the loop (exit from the RIGHT side of the vehicle: ALL the children in the vehicle

MUST exit from the PASSENGER SIDE). Students should only exit onto the

designated and labeled STUDENTS ONLY to use as a pedestrian areas for walking

through the Kiss and Ride.

3. Your child(ren) should have their backpack on their lap to enable them to

exit the vehicle quickly.

4. Never leave your car parked, idling or unattended.

5. Be courteous to the school staff; they are only trying to keep your child

safe.

6. Pull your vehicle all the way forward to the gate to allow for as many cars to

enter our kiss and ride.

When dropping off your child(ren) in the morning please remember that children

are entering the rear gate to make their way to the west side. All students/

parents heading in that direction will help everyone make their way around to the

west side.
