Pretreatment/Case Planning Photo Checklist 1. Full face smiling l have patient sit upright or stand l pictures should be taken at a right angle, with patient’s head straight l smile should be natural not forced 2. Smile - without retractors l frame the image just inside nose-to chin; captures relationship of upper smile line to lower lip line 3. Profile - close-up l shows the upper incisal edge position to inner vermillion border of lower lip 4. High smile line l have patient laugh or smile as high as possible to determine maximum tooth display l provides information on embrasures, symmetry of gingival heights, & information for margin placement 5. “E” position l shows relationship of upper incisors to upper lip l age appropriate tooth wear may be evaluated 6. Maximum Intercuspation with retractors l shows front-to-back progression 7. Rest position l to show display relation- ship of incisal plane of lower teeth to lower lip l very important image to evaluate wear cases 8. Smile - teeth apart l displays the silhouette of upper and lower incisal plane 9. Smile - head tipped down slightly (with patient sitting, shoot down from above) l shows the relationship of arch form to lower lip l especially good for reviewing anterior pontics In cases with severe wear, request an old photo from high school, college, or a wedding.
