Pretty Puff Scarf

Crochet Pattern Level: Intermediate

hello Shortly after making my Kaleidoscope Shawl, I had this idea for a simple hexagon scarf. Something that could be made in a solid color, or multi-colored, and with a puff stitch for added texture. This little scarf whipped up SO quickly. I spent a Saturday curled up with a good audio book and some scraps of hand dyed yarn, and cranked through the hexagons in no time. Pull together your favorite colors, and let’s get started!

supplies Yarn: A soft DK or light worsted weight yarn multiple

colors. This project is great for stash busting. Details on the hand dyed yarns I used for my sample can be found on page 8.

You will need an approximate total of 840

yards of yarn for this project, exact amount of each color will depend on the number of colors you choose.

Hook: US J - 6mm Other: Tapestry needle, scissors.

gauge & sizing Rather than counting gauge in stitches, I am measuring the size of each hexagon and the size of the finished scarf. Width of a finished hexagon from point to point is ~3” Overall size of my finished scarf is ~11” wide by ~80” long. You can adjust to your liking by adding more or less hexagons as you go.

(Make 94) Setup: ch 4, sl st into the first ch to form a loop If you prefer the magic loop method, that is fine too.

Round 1: Ch 3 (this counts as the first dc), 11 dc’s into the center of the loop. Secure with a sl st into the 3rd ch of the first ch 3 (12)

Repeat from * 5 more times around the hexagon. End the last side of the hexagon with 1 dc into the top of the last puff, and one final dc into the last ch space. Join with a sl st into the top of the first ch 3.

Cut the yarn leaving an 8-10” tail, use a tapestry needle to weave the tail over to the corner of the hexagon to use for joining later. Each side of your hexagon should have 5 dc’s.

layout Use this sheet to color plan if you prefer, and also to keep track of where you are as you assemble!

finishing details SEAMING Using the long tail you left at the end of your finished hexagons and a tapestry needle, begin seaming. With wrong sides facing, whip stitch carefully through the outer edge stitches of the short sides. Watch my video tutorial if you need help with seaming, it will walk you through my preferred whip stitch method. Weave in and trim all ends. WET BLOCKING You can wet block your individual hexagons as you go, or wet block the whole scarf once you have finished assembling. Soak your scarf in warm water with a mild detergent, and press dry in a towel. Lay flat, and pin on a blocking mat to dry. This will give the scarf a nice finished shape.
