What is Adventure Tourism?

• Adventure tourism is type of tourism, involving exploration or travel to remote, exotic and possibly hostile areas.

• Adventure tourism is rapidly growing in popularity as tourist seeks different kinds of vacations.

• According to us based ATTA, adventure tourism may be any tourist activity, including two of the following three components i.e. a physical activity, a cultural exchange or interaction and engagement with Nature.

• Adventure tourism gains much of its excitement by allowing its participants to step outside of their comfort zone.

Types of Adventure Tourism

• There are two main type of adventure tourism i.e. Hard Adventure and Soft Adventure.• Every time we had big debate on which tourism

belong which category.• Easiest way to find and adventure trip as Hard or

soft adventure is by its primary activity.

Hard Adventure• It includes trekking, climbing (Mountain, rock and Ice) and Caving.

• It requires a high level of specialized skills and this activities are high risky.

• The trend over the past three years indicates that the number of hard adventure trips has held steady, at around 2 % of the population.

• Now a days, the people of south America and Europe thinks to take a hard adventure trip for their next holiday.

• Where as North Americans thinks they don’t want any risk at all.

Soft Adventure

• Soft adventure is the term used to describe the type of adventure tourism that requires little or no experience and is low risk.• Soft Adventure is one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry and with good reason.• Soft Adventure activities include snorkeling, casual bicycle tours, cultural art walks, camping, volunteer opportunities, fly fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, teambuilding, wildlife viewing, or simply horseback riding.

Adventure Tourism in NepalThe Himalayan kingdom of Nepal is one of Asia's most amazing adventure tourism destinations. Its mountains and rivers offer almost unlimited opportunities for adventure activities.

Some travel companies have recognized this and put together adventure vacation packages, which include travel and lodging. For the inexperienced traveler, this is probably the best option, because Nepal's remote areas are difficult to access, so independent travel can be intimidating.

More than 8 million people have been affected by the worst earthquake that Nepal has experienced in 80 years. The International Rescue Committee is working with their partner, the Association for Aid and Relief Japan (AAR), which is directly responding to the crisis.

Now another major earthquake in Nepal has caused dozens of deaths and additional destruction, putting new challenges in the way of people struggling to recover and rebuild.

There are many Aid Workers from different countries and different organization who is still serving in Nepal.

PilgrimsNepal has several ancient pilgrimage sites. Each temple is attached to a legend or belief that glorifies the miraculous powers of its deity. Kathmandu Valley is home to the famous Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhu Stupa and several other famous temples. Hundreds of famous temples are located in and around the Kathmandu Valley.

Some well-known pilgramage sites are: Baraha Chhetra, HalesiMahadev, Janakpur, Pathibhara, Tengboche in East Nepal; Manokamana, Gorkha, Lumbini, Muktinath, Gosainkunda, Tansen, Kathmandu Valley in Central Nepal; and Swargadwari, Khaptad Ashram in West Nepal. Pashupatinath, Swoyambhunath, and Boudhanath are the sites that are also listed in the UNESCO Heritage Sites.

Nepal is also the Gateway to Kailash Mansarovar, the mythical abode of Lord Shiva. Devotees from various parts of Nepal and India throng the temples during special festivals. Even though weak infrastructure renders some places hard to reach, efforts are being made on national level to develop and promote some popular sites.

Pilgrimage sites of Nepal like Muktinath and Gosainkunda make popular trekking destinations. Tours to these sites are encouraged for the novelty they provide in terms of nature and culture.

Traders European tourists in Nepal discovered the finest cashmere wool, pashmina, a piece of fabric that “makes cashmere feel like cardboard.”1 Pashmina is the soft fur found close to the skin around the neck and chest of the Chyangra goat, which lives at altitudes of 12,000 to 14,000 feet in the Himalayas. In Nepal, pashmina blankets were essential components of a wealthy woman’s dowry.
