Prevention from Overuse Injuries

It is very common for runners that they overdo it because of too much

motivation to stay fit. According to research, it has said that 70% of runners

develop injuries every year. You might run too fast, or too far, or too soon just

after an injury. When muscles, bones, tendons, or ligaments endure current

stress and don’t get time to heal then, overuse injuries might happen and put

your motive on the back burner. These injuries could be serious as well and

may require surgery with the use of Orthopaedic Implants.

Some common overuse injuries

If you don’t follow the rules of the game or do anything by pulling your body

then, there might be chances of developing

● Tennis Elbow

● Bursitis

The fluid filled sacs inflammation which acts as cushions between the tendons,

muscles, bones, and ligaments

● Achilles Tendinitis

As the name suggests, it is inflammation of the Achilles tendon

● Stress Fractures

Cracks in the weak bones because of repetitive and excessive force

Young athletes experience most risk once it comes to overuse because their

bodies are still developing. Any injury to growth plates of growing bones might

result in long-term health problems.

Cure

● Prepare Yourself

Preparation is the main key to success when the question is to exercise and it

will help you to keep safe from the overuse injury. Be sure to have the correct

gear for your activity like perfect shoes for running, jogging, or walking, and

replace them constantly.

● Cool down after warm-up

Muscles which have had a chance to warm up are less prone to overuse injury.

So, it is advisable to warm up with a little walk or by jogging in the place before

you start your main activity. Now, stretch a bit slowly and now you are ready to

go. Do this process after the activity and don’t forget to do some stretching and

cool down with a short jog or walk.

● Move Gradually

Avoid myths about fitness and be real with the skill level and fitness and never

try to do so much at one time. You will need to gradually build up the time and

you do an activity and in repetitions. It will relax your body and give you time

to adjust and keep you away from the overuse injury.

● Incorporate Diversity

You should select more than one sport or activity. Research has shown that

people love to focus only on one activity and hence they get into an overuse

injury. If you have love to run and want to try swimming or yoga then, you will

use different muscles and provide others of them a break from tear and wear

● Rest

Last but not least, your body requires time to recover from activity, and hence

you might get stuck with the overuse injury when you do it excessively. A short

muscle ache is common after exercise. If you get stuck with the pain for a long

hour then, this is the time to give yourself a break.

In case of any muscle strain that looks quite serious, all you need to do is to

contact your physician and take recommended precautions and cure.
