As part of an organization like this, it is important for folks to take a turn in leader- ship roles. There are many reasons for this, such as keeping from burning people out, bringing in new ideas, bringing in new energy, and continuing to evolve the or- ganization. The sooner we have those people in place, the easier the knowledge transfer and the more the new board mem- bers will be included in planning for next year. One of my objectives is to have as much fun as we can while work together. Rules and More Rules Dead animal in bunker Larry’s ball came to rest in the sand bunker tucked up next to a dead squirrel. Larry of course argued that it was not right for him not to be able to move the squirrel that impeded a clean hit of the ball, as if he ever makes a clean hit. Scott countered that the squirrel was a loose impediment and removing a loose impediment would be penalized. What is the correct ruling? A. Scott is correct; the squirrel is a loose

impediment. You may not remove a loose impediment from a bunker when your ball lies in the same bun-ker. Remove the mouse….one stroke penalty.

B. Scott is correct; the squirrel is a loose impediment. You may not remove a loose impediment from a bunker when your ball lies in the same bun-ker. Remove the mouse….two stroke penalty.

C. Scott is incorrect. Larry is allowed to move the squirrel without penalty.

The correct answer: B. Dead animals are loose impediments. As per rule 23, removal of a loose impediment from a bunker incurs a two stroke penalty. Larry does have the option of declaring the ball unplayable and proceeding under Rule 28. This would result in a one stroke pen-alty for an unplayable ball, but that is bet-ter than a two-stroke penalty for moving the loose impediment

THE RUNDOWN OF UPCOMING EVENTS:

Battle at the Beach Hilton Head Island, SC November 3-6, 2016

We’ve all seen this famous lighthouse at the Harbor Town Links on Hilton Head. An an-nual stop on the PGA tour, the Harbor Town links course is a bucket list item for every seri-ous golfer. ASGA members can play it as an optional round

this weekend at a rate that is literally $118 less than what you would pay if you played it on your own. You’ll stay at the ocean-front Beach House hotel that’s located in the coveted Coligny Circle area of Hilton Head where there are a number of restau-

rants, bars (such as the Tiki Hut) and shops to visit. We’ll play Dolphin Head and Palmetto Hall. Dinners feature a low-country boil and a Saturday night at Marley’s, a local favorite, typically found with a line out front. SinglesGolf.com/BattleAtTheBeach is the site you need to review. We have priced this event very fa-vorably for you in order to get a big turnout.

The New Year Celebration at TPC Sawgrass Ponte Vedra Beach — Florida January 1-4, 2017

No doubt, we love to go to nice places and meet nice people. In continuation of our attempt to have every member check things off their bucket list, we’re offering a great experience at one of America’s most famous “sacred ground” courses, the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, site of the annual Player’s Championship. Yes, it’s expensive and it is, again, an optional round for the die-hards who just have to do it. How else are memories made? January 1 is a Sunday. This is our arrival day. Yes, we missed the official “countdown” (been there, done that), but what we are gaining are a) lower hotel rates, b) lower airline rates flying south, c) better golf rates and d) no white-knuckle experi-ence driving on I-95. Everyone else is headed north, we’re headed south and beating the convention business which starts the following week. We have much better rates this way. For now though, it looks like we’ll be play-ing the Pete Dye course at TPC Sawgrass and one of the courses over at the World Golf Hall of Fame, where you’ll also receive tickets to tour the Hall. On January 4, our departure day, you can opt to play the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. You know, the one with the famous island green. Will you play that hole from the regular tee box or the drop zone? We’re planning our stay at the Marriott on property, taking a tour of the PGA clubhouse and for those who will not play the Stadium Course, you’ll have an opportunity to take a free tour of the famous holes sponsored by a local charity that raises money to support local charities. Small donation is a probability. Details out soon with a registration form in your newsletter and online. You’ll be sent an email when that’s all available. Stay tuned and talk this one up with your other single friends.

Multi-Chapter Events: If you’ve never attended one, you’re missing out!

In the history of our organization, we’ve never had a bet-ter line-up of travel opportunities. Yes, we all love golf. We’re all single. And occasionally, we like to sweeten the offering by adding some travel to the mix. ASGA members do like to travel. Look at the 100 members we have headed to Spain this month (SinglesGolf.com/Spain). We also know it’s important to space these events out and to provide some variety but use our “numbers” to negotiate phenomenal prices. All ASGA members are invited to multi-chapter events include hotel, golf and food all wrapped into a package. Room by yourself or bring a fellow member. Don’t know anyone yet? We’ll try our best to secure a roommate for you!

ASGA in Hawaii Ritz-Carlton Kapalua / Kapalua Golf Courses February 18-25, 2017

ASGA has developed a tradition of traveling Europe every even-numbered year (that would be this year, as 100 of us are head-ed to Spain this month) and then head to Hawaii in odd-numbered years, i.e. 2017. Past European trips have brought us to Ireland and Scotland. We’ll play the Bay and Plantation Courses at Kapalua and stay seven nights at the beautiful Ritz-Carlton. This places leave more than the lights on. It’s really nice! Website and details up soon, but in the meantime, check out this hotel. It’s truly one of the nicest in Hawaii: TinyURL.com/RitzKapalua

Tremblant Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada Tentative Dates — July 16, 17, 18, 19, 2017

I believe it’s been a good 18+ years since we last visited Tremblant, a beautiful resort about 90 minutes outside of Montreal. We had a small group of about 24 people. We were such a young organization then and only 24 attended. They have two hilly course: The Giant and The Devil. But the town itself offers so much. The virtual site is Tremblant.ca but we’re looking to do a non-virtual visit next year and they promise much cooler weather than we had this summer.

River Cruise / Ryder Cup 2018 Paris, France — September/October, 2018 We’ve already made some inroads with Le Golf National, site of the 2018 Ryder Cup com-petition. They welcome members of ASGA to play the Ryder Cup course immediately after the close of the 2018 Ryder Cup. Dates for the ‘18 Ryder Cup should be announced soon. This event is two years out and will be the first river cruise ever of-fered by ASGA. Our hopes are to “buy-out” the ship by filling-up 65 cabins, which will take no more than 118 members to do so, a lesser amount if some room by themselves. By buying-out the ship, we’ll have more latitude on certain things and can certainly

party “ASGA-style” without having people look at us in a funny way. Although we’re not officially announcing it yet, the pieces are being assembled and we really want to put together another awe-some experience for you. We anticipate visiting Versailles, histor-ic monuments in Rouen, the English channel villages of Etretat and Honfleur, Jumieges Abbey, one of the great Benedictines of France, Chateau Gaillard, Claude Monet’s home and a lot more. At our halfway point on the cruise on the Seine River, we’ll visit the D-Day beaches including Omaha and Normandy. A once in a lifetime opportunity, by definition, only occurs one time so this may just be it for you! So talk it up. Think about whom you’d like to room with to cut some cost. It will be a few months before the full website, details, etc. are posted so in the meantime, keep your eye on the ball and the event websites.

Some Strokes Are Very Important! Think you are having a stroke? Call 911 immediately! F.A.S.T.

is an easy way to remember the sudden signs of stroke. When you can spot the signs, you'll know that you need to call 911for help right away. F.A.S.T. is:

Face Drooping – Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. Is the person's smile uneven?

Arm Weakness – Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

Speech Difficulty – Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, like "The sky is blue." Is the sentence repeated cor-rectly?

Time to call 911 – If someone shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away,

call 9-1-1 and get the person to the hospital immediately. Check the time so you'll know when the first symptoms ap-peared. It could make a FAST difference in someone’s life!

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, con-tempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their house-holds. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gob-ble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.
