4.3. Enhancing the role of SFM in a green economy

• The workshop: „Enhancing the Long-term Competitiveness of the ForestSector in a Green Economy:policies for forest-basedbioeconomy in Europe“ held on May29, 2018 in Brussels

• Hosted by: Norwegian Ministry for Foodand Agriculture and Norwegian Instituteof Bioeconomy Research

• Partners: European State ForestsAssociation (EUSTAFOR) and Union ofForesters of Southern Europe (USSE)

4.3. Enhancing the role of SFM in a green economy

• Summarizing outcomes of the FORESTEUROPE activities conducted in this workingarea by the current as well as previous LiaisonUnits

• Experts from the forest sector, education andlabour administration sectors at various levelsprovided consultations

• Comments from countries implemented

• Prepared for a further drafting procedure

• FOREST EUROPE/UNECE/FAO meeting inSweden to search for synergies between thework resulting in one joint product

• First part of Analysis focused on different approaches and methodologies on valuation of FES including formulation of recommendations finalized

• Second part of the Analysis of payment mechanisms for FES elaborated

• A demo version of the web-based portal on FES established

4.4. Incorporating the value of forests ecosystem

services in a green economy

4.5 Protection of forests in changing environment including their adaptation to climate change

Questionnaire survey to explore the current status of implementation of adaptation measures to climate change at national levels

Based on a questionnaire survey, the expert group shall

prepare a publication "Integration of adaptation

measures into SFM in Europe" comprising:

–knowledge base and work done in the region (cf.

evaluation of relevant Goals & 2020 Targets),

– approaches to adaptation of forests to climate

change,

– identifying best practices and policy

recommendations (and how to integrate

adaptation measures into SFM).

4.5 Protection of forests in changing environment including their adaptation to climate change

• Workshop: Management of forests tocombat climate-change-driven risks:Policies and measures for increasingforest resilience and climate changeadaptation in Europe will be held inJune 2019 in Turkey

• EFI/FOREST EUROPE ThinkForestscience-policy seminar: How to Respond to Forest Disturbances in Europe? -4 April 2019 in Prague

• 3rd meeting of the EG on Adaptation- 5 April 2019 in Prague
