  • Shakespeares Globe Theatre And

    Hamlet

    By: Tess Eubank

  • Have you or anyone you know gone the famous Globe Theatre? No? The Globe Theatre

was amazing; everyone wanted to see the plays. Everyone in London would come and see it. It was

designed by William Shakespeare. The audience, however, was a different story. All of the

audience expected good plays. If they did not like the play or a specific actor, they would throw

food or boo at them. The poor people would stand in what is called the open yard. However, they were called groundlings or stinkards. In addition, they could throw food, but they could actually touch the actors, too. They could trip an actor if they wanted to. Therefore, that is how it

was back then in the 1500s.

    The Audience

  • 1. Flag- announces what kind of play

    it is

    2. The Heavens- the roof over the

    stage

    3. Tiring house- where actors change

    4. Upper stage- for balcony scenes

    5. Galleries- where the audience sat

    6. Main stage- where the main

    action was

    7. Inner stage- for indoor scenes

    8. Open yard-where groundlings

    would stand

    9. Support pillars- marble-like

    supporting the roof

    10. Trap door- for dramatic

    entrances

    11. Entrance- where a person would

    and collect pennies

    12. Brick foundation- keeps the

    water out from the river

  • Hamlets father was murdered by his own uncle. No one knows that his uncle did

it, Hamlet knows and he seeks revenge on

    his uncle. The 14th

    century in Elsinore,

Denmark was when this story happened.

The Lion King was actually based on this

story. Hamlets uncle is the King, King

    Claudius.
