Preface

This book is written in accordance to the guiding principles of the 2008 Primary Science Syllabus issued by Singapore Ministry of Education where the understanding and application of scientific knowledge is revolved around daily life and society in the context of the modern environment. Special attention is also devoted to the development of scientific skill set and the appreciation of the processes involved in problem solving and scientific investigation. This enrichment book is to be used in conjunction with the textbook. To assist students in retaining the necessary knowledge, so as to enable application, in particularly across domains, we develop mind maps for each theme. These mind maps allow systematic linking of the concepts, an important ingredient in the application of theory. The application of concepts is achieved through carefully crafted scenarios based questions requiring the students to observe and deduce the application of the scientific knowledge. The difficulty of each question is also carefully checked to ensure it conform with that of top well-known Singapore schools. Furthermore, to ensure students are not lost on this journey, this book “brings” the tuition teacher along with it. Each book comes with a multimedia CDROM. The CDROM contains detailed explanation of each question in each paper by our 24/7 tuition teacher in a virtual classroom.
