Dear Parents and Students,
We are now in Week 7 of our school year and for the next few weeks we will be exploring a new
Transdisciplinary Theme:
WHERE WE ARE IN TIME AND PLACE
Central Idea: Man’s inventions have helped to improve our way of life
An inquiry into: Inventions of individuals, Scientific approaches to inventions, and
How inventions have changed through time
The proposed summative assessment is for the students to create their very own invention. They must use
their creativity and imagination to create a name and design for their invention, and finally an autobiography
describing why and how they made their invention. Once students have finished their invention project, we
hope to have a mini-exhibition to share their inventions with others in the school. The bubbles below show
how this theme is transdisciplinary across other subjects.

Week 7 Issue – Friday, 19th October 2012
ENGLISH / LITERACY The students will be writing about
their invention, about other
inventors and share ideas in class
discussions on how inventions have
changed over time and their impact
on society.
MATHEMATICS
The students will be learning about
decimals and calculations as well as
exploring the metric system.
Through this they develop their
measurement and analytical skills.
CHINESE
The students will learn about the “Big
4” Chinese Inventions.
BIBLE KNOWLEDGE
The students will learn how
inventions have an impact on our
values and beliefs.
ART
The students will be designing and
creating a model (or a prototype) of
their inventions.
SOCIAL STUDIES / HISTORY The students will explore various
inventions in the past and the
reasons why they were invented.
They will understsand various
societal necessities and investigate
possible solutions.
SCIENCE
The students will learn the difference
between science and technology and
understand how scientists become
inventors.
MUSIC The students will learn about
inventors and also components of
various instruments.
P.E. & P.S.P.E.
The students will learn about the
inventors of various sports and how
they have impacted our lives.
OUTING
Science Museum – November
Parents: if you are an expert in this area,
we welcome you as a guest speaker!

division of decimal.
UOI: We have learnt about the inventions. How the people make
inventions and what kind of inventions there are.
Art: We have made the sports day banner.
Grammar: We have learnt, Adverb Clause.
Others: We will have parents evening and mufti day next week
after next week we will have theme day.Next week Tuesday is a
public holiday so don't come to school.
Music: We are learning a new song called HOORAY HOORAY IT'S A
HOLIDAY.
IT: We are doing Computer safety.
