As you will no doubt have seen, the Prime Minister has set out the Government’s plan to begin to gradually ease the lock-down and manage the Coronavirus pandemic over the coming months.

The Government has said that it would like to be able to begin a phased reopening of primary schools for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 at the beginning of June. At INA this is relevant for Reception and Year 1. It is also hoped that all primary school children can return to school for a period of time before the summer holidays.

The Prime Minister stressed that all of the reopening plans are conditional and will depend on infection rates decreasing.

We are really looking forward to seeing all of our pupils back at school again. We know that the best thing for every child’s education is for them to be at school – but, most importantly, only when it is safe for them, and our staff, to do so. A letter was sent out this week answering some of the questions you may have, this can also be found on the main page of our website.

We are now in the process of reading the Government’s guidance very carefully and developing our specific plans, with the support of our colleagues across the Ark network. I will update you with more details next week on the measures we will be taking. For now, please continue to encourage and support your child with their home learning and continue to maintain a healthy and active daily routine. Please also continue to follow the NHS advice on Coronavirus.

From Tam Broadway – Primary Headteacher

Our BRIDGES focus for next week is ‘integrity’ which comprises of six dispositions: citizenship, honesty, justice, fairness, humility and humanity. As always, whilst each of the dispositions are of equal importance the words that really jumped out at me this week were those of citizenship and humanity.

Whilst talking to friends and colleagues over the last few months one of the most positive things to come of our current situation from being at home has been getting to know the people in our community and growing a real sense of citizenship. Many people enjoyed community ‘social distancing’ street parties to celebrate VE Day last week and getting to know neighbours on their street that they may never have even said ‘hello’ to before. From my window I have seen my neighbours learning to skip, practice learning their musical instruments, listen to radio programmes and follow keep fit exercise videos in their garden; things they would not ordinarily do. From just watching and listening to everyone around me I have learned more about the people in my neighbourhood that I might have otherwise. It has also been moving to see everyone taking a few minutes of their time each week to clap on a Thursday evening and show their appreciation for our front-line key workers. Just those few minutes help us all to feel a sense of citizenship and togetherness.

Next week as we reflect on our BRIDGES focus of integrity, I hope you can all take time to appreciate those around you and the important role we all play as individual citizens to supporting a global pandemic. I hope you all continue to stay healthy and safe.

On behalf of all the Primary staff we would like to thank you for your continued support!

Dear Master,

Do you remember the poor slave who worked for you day and night? Master it’s me Bron! I am writing to you to tell you why I escaped from you. The purpose of this letter is to tell you how I felt being your slave. I know you DON’T CARE!!! But I DO!!! I hope after reading this letter you will change your cruel and harsh personality.

Everyday I felt tired, exhausted and lonely. As a Master you should be happy to have a hardworking slave. Why did you not pay me or let me have a 1-day break on Sundays? You have stung me as a bee! I found a better place to stay and I have the POWER NOW thanks to King Alfred. King Alfred gave me a new place to stay and is treating me very nicely. You are too CRUEL to SPEAK TO!!!

To conclude, I hope you change your ways after you read this letter. You MUST learn HUMANITY or you WON’T HAVE ANY FRIENDS!!! If you DON’T USE your HONESTY it will be a DISASTER! Next time when I see you, I hope you have changed to a better person than I know.

From, Bron

What have the staff been up to…?As requested by some of you, I asked the staff to start sending in some pictures of how they have been spending their time during closure.

Ms Chaggar has not only been incredible at picking up all the calls and emails to support our families every day, but she has also been incredibly busy helping her own children with their home learning too!! Thank you Ms Chaggar for doing such a great job!

Ms Rigby has been running regularly each week and completed a run to raise money for the NHS, where she ran 5km then donated £5 (she also achieved a new personal best).

The link to the charity page for the run is here - https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RunForHeroes

Not only that but she has also taken up cycling which she plans to use as her mode of transport to school when we return rather than the tube.

BRIDGES in the Primary Phase“We build too many walls and not enough bridges.”

Isaac Newton

BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner.

There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be in-troduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certifi-cate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week.

Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel below.

At School • At school we encourage the pupils to make sure they play in a kind and

thoughtful way and ensure that they include others in their games. Games where ‘turn-taking’ is needed are great at helping the children to understand that everyone has fair turn.

• It is also important that the children learn how to win and lose a game graciously and show humility when they win or congratulate the winner and say well done if they lose.

• The children need to learn and understand the importance of telling the truth even when it feels uncomfortable when we have to admit that we have done something wrong. They also need to learn to take responsibility for their actions and not get into a habit of blaming others. It is important that the children have a moral sense of right and wrong.

• Each half term the class teacher chooses two ambassadors to help the pupils develop their citizenship skills and by helping with jobs in their class or at lunchtimes.

• We encourage every child to help keep the school environment clean by clearing away plates or cups after lunch or tidying up their own table place after activities in class.

At Home• Talk to your child about how they can be a good citizen within their community,

by not dropping litter etc. T• alk about what is fair and encourage your child to help out at home with tidying

their room or books away so that they develop a sense of responsibility and respect towards theirs and others’ property.

• Reinforce the message about always telling the truth and why this is important. • When you are reading stories together with your child, discuss characters, their

behaviour and moral decision and whether they are good or bad characters and why. What should the character have done instead etc.

Safeguarding ChildrenAs part of their curriculum, the children learn how to keep themselves safe. The following website has been set up by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to offer parents and schools advice on how to raise safeguarding awareness with children. There is a notable section called ‘The Underwear Rule’ which is of particular support and guidance to parents. The website also offers advice regarding ‘online safety’ and how to obtain support or advice regarding the safeguarding of children.
