Introduction

A lot of Zakynthians refer to the island as “Fioro di Levante” (“flower of the East”). Due to the earthquake of 1953 the students don’t have the actual icon of the island’s glimpse that can justify this compellation. They have to study culture, history, art, museums, music, monuments and even the local vocabulary, in order to understandthis characterization initially given to the island by the Venetians.
