Just for Dogs was founded in August 1997 by a handful of like-minded people who simply wanted to rescue and re-home abandoned dogs. Founder members agreed that they would not get into any politics, rules or regulations and therefore it was decided there would be no long list of committee members drawing up endless policies.

Our main objectives were as follows:

1 To rescue dogs who through no fault of their own had found themselves lost and alone on the streets.

2 To worm, fully vaccinate, spay/neuter and get veterinary attention when needed for all dogs coming

into the Centre.

3 Re-home in a responsible manner and without long lists of restricting guidelines. We insist on our

dogs being offered a kind, loving and responsible home. We are quite prepared to re-home dogs to

families with young children, senior citizens, and people in full time employment as long as these

people understand that it has to be the right dog to fit in with the right environment.

Just for dogs requires over £65,000 per year to fund the running of the centre, our main expenses

being veterinary costs – although we remain grateful to our local veterinary practice Blenheim Veterinary

Centre for continuing discounts and FOC services. Our other main expenses are heating and

motoring expenses. We have, for the past five years, fed the dogs in our care their natural diet,

which has seen our feeding expenses fall dramatically from over £4,000 per annum to under

£500! Just for Dogs relies totally on voluntary donations and fund-raising. We have always been

sympathetic with stray and abandoned dogs and work closely with the Derby City

dog wardens, which is where the majority of our dogs come from and with the

help of our website donated by Just 30 ltd. we manage to help many families

who are having to part with their family pet due to various reasons i.e. marriage

breakdown, unemployment, eviction, illness or death. In September we began to

offer our help to Retired Racing Greyhounds many of which are destroyed each

year and a section of our kennels is dedicated to this beautiful and gentle breed.

In July 2010, to help with the centre’s running costs, JFD opened its first charity

shop in Mackworth, Derby. Due to the shop’s success the lease on a second shop, in

Ripley town, has been signed and is due to open its doors in October 2011. The

success of the shop relies solely on donations of all household goods, gifts and

second hand clothes in order to keep this steady but vital income coming in.

descriptions of dogs currently in our care. There is also information about

forthcoming events, how to become a member and ways in which people can

age. With the arrival of Aunt Opal comes destruction and damage as her driving, cooking and discipline leave a lot to be desired. She’s not very responsible, either. But, what she lacks in parenting skills she makes up in the ‘fun aunt’ factor. Judy and Stink are worried at fi rst, not knowing this strange-looking woman, but they soon realise that she is a lot of fun … much more fun than their parents!

Between them, they think of a way that they can make the most of their summer together. They draw up a chart called ‘Judy Moody’s Mega-Rare NOT Bummer Summer Dare!’ Each person is given a list of dares to do and, if they complete their dare, they get 10 thrill points.

Stink has an ambition of catching Bigfoot, the ape-like,

man-sized creature who lives in the wild, so that becomes his biggest goal of the summer. While Rocky and Amy take part in their own dares from Circus Camp and Borneo, Judy notices that she is falling rapidly behind in the thrill points total column. Every dare or adventure she attempts goes totally wrong. She decides she needs to up her game if she is to win the contest. The idea springs to mind of helping Stink fi nd Bigfoot – if she can fi nd Bigfoot, she is sure to win! Although their summer begins with disappointment, together, they end up having the most thrilladelic, super awesome summer ever!

The makers of this fi lm searched all over the world to fi nd their perfect Judy Moody, and they most defi nitely found her in Jordana Beatty. Jordana is a 13-year old actress from Australia. She looks like the Judy Moody from the books, with her messy red hair, infectious bubbly personality and a smile that is guaranteed to melt the hearts of parents and make children want to be like her.

Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer also stars Heather Graham as Aunt Opal, Preston Bailey as Frank, Parris Mosteller as Stink, Garrett Ryan as Rocky and Taylar Hender as Amy. It is truly a great cast for,

what promises to be a superb family fi lm.

For children, this fi lm will sum up everything that they wish they could get up to during their summer. For parents, memories of a rebellious youth will come fl ooding back. Parents with concerns or queries about resources available to support their child in school can talk to a PPS advisor, and can request support at school meetings or help with writing letters or reports about their child. Advice is free and confi dential. Staff have a wide knowledge of special educational needs and disability issues on both local and national levels. Parents often fi nd it a great relief to talk to an impartial advisor about day-to-day issues. The aim is to empower parents to be fully involved in all decision-making about their child’s education, and to foster good relationships and effective partnerships working between schools, parents and professionals within the family support arena.

The graduates have designed and illustrated activity packs and exhibition guides aimed at providing children and young people with exciting visual tools to navigate their way around QUAD. If you’re returning to work, your CV will need updating. Here are our top tips to make sure yours goes to the top of the pile.

Your CV should be neatly typed and proofread to avoid unwanted mistakes. There is nothing worse than sending off a CV and then noticing you have spelt a key word incorrectly. Also, your CV must be readable. Don’t choose a pretty-looking font; choose a font that is professional and easy to read.

Try to keep it to two A4 pages. Any longer than two pages and employers will lose interest.

Be positive about your experience, even if it is minimal. If you don’t sound pleased with your successes then neither will an employer.

Target your CV to the company to which you are applying. Highlight qualifi cations and experience relevant to the role.

Keep it professional, but with a personal spin. A personal profi le at the beginning of your CV should list your skills,

experience and hobbies. Don’t go in to too much detail about your hobbies; just simply things like reading, walking and cycling. If you are a member of a club or society that can provide skills relevant to the role, this should be highlighted.

Do not lie. It is surprising how many people are determined to make up information and past jobs on their CV: it will only catch you out if you are lucky enough to be offered an interview.

Try not to leave any gaps in time. If an employer notices a two-year gap with no job listed, you should say what you were doing in that time. If you were out of work, try to put a positive spin on it by stating any voluntary work you did, any skills you picked up by looking for work etc. If you were on maternity or paternity leave, that must be stated too.

If you have room – remember to keep it to two pages – include a note that says details of references are available on request. You do not have to state your referees on your CV, but encourage the employer by saying you have nothing to hide and that you are happy for your referees to be contacted.

need foster carersHave you thought about becoming a foster carer and then decided against it?

Maybe you thought that you didn’t have the time, experience or confidence to apply to look after children and young people who need a home. Well, you have something in common with all of Derby City Council’s 190 foster carers. It can take a number of months or years from the time when people first start thinking about fostering to the moment they first contact the Fostering Team. Derby City Council currently looks after around 470 children, the majority live with foster carers, although around 40 youngsters live in five children’s homes. Foster carers can come from all backgrounds. They can be: • Single, married, living together as a couple, separated, widowed • A parent or without children • Employed, retired or on benefits

• From any adult age group • A homeowner or a tenant

• Living in or outside of DerbyFoster carers receive full training and support, as well as a weekly financial payment ranging from £130 to £469 to look after a child. Carers can choose the age and gender of the child or children they want to foster and can look after children at weekends, for short breaks or for a longer period of time.You need a spare room unless you wish to look after a baby. It can take around six months to become a foster carer. It is important that everyone in your household is committed to fostering, including your children if you have them. You do not need any childcare qualifications or experience to be a foster

carer and you do not have to take any exams. All the information is presented in a clear and easy to understand style and you get excellent support from your social worker.
