Hello Ladybird Class! What a lot of fantastic learning this week. Thank you for sharing all your amazing work last week. I loved the videos and photos of you in action with your hoopla games. Great perseverance. You wrote some amazing sentences about insects and your playdough mini beasts were adorable. This week we are going to spend some time getting ready and preparing ourselves to turn from Ladybirds into Hedgehogs! I hope you enjoy the Hedgehog crafts and look forward to seeing your creativity. Remember to just do your best and show us the work on Seesaw. Ms Rowlands and I are thinking of you lots. Take care and be good.

Counting (in ones with accuracy)(Remember all children are at different stages in their learning)

Using a group of objects encourage your child to accurately count the group of objects and then record the amount of objects in the group. Repeat this activity with other groups of objects. NB if your child can count confidently to 10 use numbers beyond.

Don’t forget to buy your snack today, it’s 10p or 24p(I would like your child to work independently with

their snack money so you choose a price that is best suited)

You will need these coins to make 10p four different ways:Ten 1p coinsFive 2p coinsTwo 5p coinsOne 10p coin

You will need these coins to make 24p four different ways:Eight 1p coinsFour 2p coinsSix 5p coinsThree 10p coinsOne 20p coin

Segmenting and blending to spellToday I would like you to use your Literacy skills to complete an ‘All about me’ fact file. I shall pass these onto Mrs Woodman and Mrs Oakman. (You can always take a photo and post on Seesaw) NB I would really like you to use your learnt spelling skills to complete this fact file.

Please remember to read and share a book today.Ask your grown-up to share a book with you. Look carefully at the pictures and talk about what you can see. Can you spot any letters/digraphs/trigraphs or tricky words you know?

Creative Development. This week we are going to be creative with Hedgehog crafts as we are thinking about our transition from Ladybird Class to Hedgehog class.

Draw or print out the hedgehog template and cut it out. Then cut out some colourful triangle pieces from paper and curve them with a pen. Now glue the triangle pieces on the hedgehog. This is a good project to develop patience (the children’s and yours!) and fine motor skills.

Fine/Gross Motor Skills

Using your playdough can you roll a very long sausage and then create a spiral snail shell. Using a straw, can you blow a small ball or roll up a ball of tinfoil/clingfilm around the snail shell shape.

Counting (in 2’s)(Remember all children are at different stages in their learning)

Let’s continue our learning of counting in twos today. Let’s make a number skipping game.

Punch ten holes or more depending upon your child’s stage of learning.

Write the numbers (2,4,6… 16, 18, 20) randomly next to the holes.

Lace the plate correctly and then turn the plate around to mark off the lines. This will serve as a self-correcting tool!

Secure the end of the lace with tape as an indicator as to where to start. The last hole is marked with a circle.

Encourage your child to count in 2’s and lace the plate. Undo and repeat.Note that you will have to show the child the correct way of lacing: in-out-in-out…This could be a bit tricky for him/her at first.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares Perhaps your child could use this grid to fill and colour counting in 2’s. Can they see the pattern?

Don’t forget to buy your snack today, it’s 11p or 25p(I would like your child to work independently with

their snack money so you choose a price that is best suited)

You will need these coins to make 11p four different ways:Three 1p coinsEight 2p coinsThree 5p coinsOne 10p coin

You will need these coins to make 25p four different ways:Twelve 1p coinsFour 2p coinsSix 5p coinsThree 10p coinsOne 20p coin

Remember you can hear the ‘w’ and the ‘en’ part of the word it is the ‘h’ that is tricking us!

Action for ‘were’: Spelling the word w: Blow on to open hand, as if you are the winde: Pretend to tap an egg on the side of a pan and crack it into the panr: Pretend to be a puppy holding a piece of rag, shaking head from side to sidee: Pretend to tap an egg on the side of a pan and crack it into the pan

Remember you can hear the ‘w’ but the ‘ere’ part of the word is tricking us!

Today let’s use some chalk to write the word ‘when’ encourage your child to use a wet paintbrush to trace over the top to turn the chalk into a painted word.Repeat several times. Extension: encourage your child to chalk the word out.

3. Cut the snout out.4. Glue the centre of the plate together.

5. Encourage your child to carefully cut the prickles on the back of the hedgehog.

ayCounting (in 5’s)

(Remember all children are at different stages in their learning)

Children are multisensory learners, and when movement is combined with learning children are more likely to retain the information learned. So today I would like your child to play jump the numbers to continue their learning of counting in 5’s, by playing bean bag hop, skip and jump game. This game can be set up using chalk outside or by using tape inside (kitchen tiles or paving stones could work well and save some preparation time!).

How to play: Throw a bean bag/soft toy to a numbered

square. Hop on each number until you reached the

bean bag/soft toy. Count in fives as you hop, skip, and jump.

Counting (in 10’s)(Remember all children are at different stages in their learning)

Let’s carry on with our multisensory learning. Today I would like your child to play cup stacking practice counting in 10's. Label each cup (plastic or polystyrene) from 10 to 100. Practice stacking your cups whilst counting in 10’s. Once your child is confident at counting in 10’s perhaps you could have a counting by 10's cup stacking competition!

Today I would really like you to use your learnt phonic skills to write me a few sentences about:

What you have liked about being in Ladybird Class What you are looking forward to when you are in

Hedgehog Class.

(If you can, please take a photo of your child’s writing and post this on Seesaw)

Creative Development.

Today your Creative Development will link to your Fine/Gross Motor Skills.

Using your playdough or modelling clay we are going to give your hand muscles a good work out by squashing, squeezing, pulling, rolling and twisting the shape of your hedgehog’s body.Once the body is shaped you can practise different fine motor skills while making the hedgehog’s quills or you could add something to your playdough to create the spikes.
