Reception Curriculum-Based ProjectsWeek beginning 1.6.20

Please remember that life at home is busy outside the education you are trying to provide for your child. It is not intended that the project be

‘completed’ but instead, choose the pieces of learning that work for you and your child.

You may also notice that some may be repeated – this is normal in EYFS so that ideas are fully learnt.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Literacy Learning------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Phonics Try following the steps from last week’s home-learning project. This week’s sounds and words to learn are below:

This week’s sounds to learn are:

Here are some words you could teach that have the sounds:

Try writing these sentences:

or urfor, fork, cord, cork, sort, born, worn

fur, burn, burp, curl, hurt, surf

The horse was born in the barn. The fur on the cat is fluffy.

1) Using the table above, have a go at saying and writing the sound down. Can you find it in any books or magazines? Do you know any other words it is in?

High Frequency words(can be sounded out)

Tricky words(can be sounded out)

went, its said, have2) Have a go at writing down this week’s high frequency and tricky words

from the table above. Use pencil and paper or chalk in the garden, or if you’re brave – paint them! Make a list of rainbow words using lots of different colours!

Phase 2 words learnt so far: Phase 3 words learnt so far:a, as, in, is, an, as, it, on, dad, can, get, got, up mum, not, into, the, to, go, big, but, if, of, off, dad, him, had, his

3) You could try to practise some of the other words we’ve learnt already using the table above. How many words can you write in a minute? Challenge yourself to put them into sentences.

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/DragonsDen.html Select: Phase 3 > Revise all phase 3 sounds.Ask your child to sound out the word on the egg. Drag it to the green dragon if it is a ‘real’ word or to the red dragon if it is a nonsese word.Challenge yourselves to access Phase 3 sounds and play all the different games.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ReadingIf there is one thing you can do during your time at home, reading

with your child daily will be one of the most valuable.Continue to read at home making sure your children are:

Sounding out and blending the words together Reading words on signs and posters in your local shop or on your daily

walk. Practising comprehension skills such as talking about the story, who the

character are, what the main setting is and predicting how the story might end.

Sharing a range of reading materials – story books, magazines, e-books – remember reading comes in a variety of places.

Don’t forget…You can use Bug Club to practise your reading, comprehension and phonics skills. Your child’s log in details can be found at the front of your child’s home school diary. Remember to look for all the bugs in your books!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------WritingThis week our learning focus is on Princes and Princesses.

1) Practise simple sentence writing:

Look at this picture of this magical land and write your words and

sentences own sentences: Examples:

Horse, man, flag, rocksThe princess is pretty

The prince has a crown and a blue top

Page 3: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com€¦  · Web view6.20. Please remember that life at home is busy . outside. the education you are trying to provide for your child. It is

Challenge your children to write your own sentences about the picture. How many things can you see it the picture? Can you write about them all?

2) Practise simple sentence writing: My half term news.

Challenge your children to write 3 sentences and see if you can draw a picture. We would love to hear about what you have been up to. Remember to use the teachers email and Twitter to show us your amazing work.

Writing tips: Simple sentences start with a capital letter Every ‘idea’ (or sentence) ends with a full stop. Your child may need help in remembering the ‘clear finger space’ in between. Words do not have to be spelt correctly – just phonetically correct.

o e.g ‘The flag is red’ ‘The carsal is big and grai’. Try to use as many tricky words and high frequency words as possible! Challenge your child further to extend their sentences Encourage children to read their work back to ensure it makes sense are there

are no small mistakes – for example, no full stop.Remember, these sentences do not have to be written perfectly!

Writing should be on the line (if you don’t have lined paper, draw lines in pencil using a ruler on plain paper.)

Children should be holding the pencil using the ‘tripod’ grip. Encourage your child to leave a ‘finger space’ between each space.Maths Learning

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The resources for maths this week require a free ‘Twinkl’ account.

Go to https://www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the offer code: UKTWINKLHELPS

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This week, we are continuing to look at: 2D Shapes

Test your knowledge of 2D shapes by using the helpful PowerPoints on the class page!

This week we want you to name 2D shapes and know their properties; this means facts about each shape. For example ‘a square has 4 sides and 4 corners.’

Practise singing shape songs related to 2D shapes to learn the names and properties of shapes:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTeqUejf3D0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJhfl5vdxp4

Your focus activities this week are:

Activity 1: Recap the properties of 2D shapes using the PowerPoint on the class page; ask a grown up to test you on what you have learnt! Make a castle only using 2D shapes – draw them or build with shapes. Build transport for a Prince or Princess using building blocks. Can you name all the shapes you have used?

Activity 2: Go on a shape hunt around your house – what shapes can you find? Draw all the things you find and label them. For example: clock – circle. TV – rectangle.Remember there are shapes everywhere! Here are a few examples:

Create a crown that is fit for a King, Queen, Prince or Princess! Decorate your crown with lots of colours, shapes and pictures. You could also decorate your crown with natural materials from the garden – these could include flowers, petals, leaves and twigs.

Design a picture of yourself as Prince or Princess. Remember to add lots of detail to your work including a special outfit, hair and eye colour as well as a royal crown! This can be made from coloured card or foil. You could also create your picture using paint, colouring pencils, crayons or chalk.

Design a carriage to travel in; to make the one in the picture you just need a paper plate, paint, glitter/gems and some paper/card for the wheels. You could also draw a carriage or build one using Lego, building blocks or shapes! Challenge yourself to make another form of transport – An aeroplane for a King, the Queens helicopter, even a Princess scooter! Can you think of something different?
