Bass Clef

Try drawing some bass clefs on the stave below. Start at the large black circle on the fourth line, then move up to the top of the stave, curve round, and finish on the second line. Finally, add two dots, one above and one below the fourth line.

Let us look at how to read the notes on the stave of the bass clef:

Try drawing the notes from low G to high A in semibreves on the stave below, above their correct letter names.

Last week, we learned about reading the different notes in music in the Treble Clef, which tells us where the letter names sit on the stave.When we read music in the treble clef, middle C is on the line just below the last line of the stave, and the rest of the notes are HIGHER.This week, we are going to look at the notes in the Bass Clef, where middle C is on the line just above the highest line in the stave, and the notes in the stave are all LOWER.Think of it like a piano, where we read all the notes above middle C in the treble clef, and all the notes below middle in the bass clef.
