ishNow that we have reminded ourselves of the set 2 and set 3 sounds over the last few weeks, we are going to have a look at some longer words. These words are called Multi-syllabic words. It is often easier for someone to read them when they break them in to syllables.

Please read through the PowerPoint Multi syllabic words 1.

Today we are going to look at suffixes. ed, er, est and ing

A suffix is added on to the end of a root word.

Read through the Suffixes PowerPoint.

Complete the worksheet uploaded to the class page. Read through the passage first then read through the words on the right hand side. Make sure you know what these words mean before you get started.

Read through the PowerPoint called Multi syllabic words 2.

Focus – ing

Watch the video from BBC bitesize.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8mxrwx/articles/zwgbcwx

How many words can you think of with the suffix -ing?

Create a list of these words.

Pick 5 words with the ending -ing. Write a sentence with each of these words, try to use adjectives in your sentences. Remember:-Use beautiful writing.- capital letters.-full stops. - finger spaces.

Play a game of Simon says with someone from home. If they say the root word you stay still if they say the word with the suffix then perform that word. E.g. if I was to say Miss Smith says jump you would stand still, if I said Miss Smith says jumping you would show me jumping on the spot.

Read through the PowerPoint called Multi syllabic words 3.

Focus – ed

Read through the PowerPoint ‘suffix -ed’

Complete the worksheet uploaded to the class page. Sort the words in to the correct column. When we read the suffix -ed it can have three different sounds. Read each word and write it in the correct column.

Pick a word from each column and use it in a sentence. Read your sentences out loud.

Remember: Remember:-Use beautiful writing.- capital letters.-full stops. - finger spaces.

Read through the PowerPoint called Multi syllabic words 4.

Focus – er and est

Read through the PowerPoint ‘suffixes -er and -est’

Complete the worksheet adding er and est to each of the adjectives.

Choose 5 words and use them in a sentence. Remember:-Use beautiful writing.- capital letters.-full stops. - finger spaces.

Write each of the different suffixes on a separate piece of paper.

Place one piece of paper on a different wall or corner of a room. Ask someone to say a word with one of the endings. Run to that suffix in the room. E.G. if I said jumping I would run to the wall that said -ing. If I said jumped I would run to the wall that said -ed. You could also do this activity outside and make it in to a game with your family 😊

Read through the PowerPoint called Multi syllabic words 5.

Handwriting video. This will be uploaded to the VRC by Friday Morning 😊

This week we will be practising word with the suffixes we have learnt about.

Mat

hsCounting to 100.

Using your numbers that you have at home, these were sent home at the beginning of lockdown, put them in order to 100. Make sure that you read each of the numbers.

Pick a number, represent that number with something from home.

I have uploaded a worksheet to the class page for you to complete.

Use your number line to help you.

Challenge:True or false questions.

Partitioning numbers.

When we say partition a number we mean pull a number apart in to its tens and ones.

E.G. 45 has 4 tens and 5 ones. We can draw the tens and ones for 45 by drawing 4 lines which represent the tens and 5 dots which represent the ones.

We are going to be partitioning numbers. We will use our part, part whole diagram to help us. I have uploaded a worksheet with support on to the class page.

I have also uploaded a White rose worksheet for those children that have shown a good understanding and also a challenge of true or false questions.

Tens and Ones loop cards

Following on from yesterday’s lesson.

I have uploaded another worksheet with part, part whole diagrams for children to draw the tens and ones separately.

I have uploaded loop cards which are very similar to dominoes.

Children are to match the number to the tens and ones picture.

Challenge:

Create your own loop cards using tens and ones.

Comparing numbers

Order your numbers to 100.

Pick two numbers, say which is the greatest number and why. Discuss the tens and ones. E.G. 45 is greater than 36 because 45 has 4 tens where as 36 only has 3.

37 is greater than 32. Although they have the same tens we now have to look at the ones. 37 has 7 ones which is greater than 2 ones.

Ask a family member to pick two numbers, explain to them which is the greatest number.

Complete the white rose worksheet uploaded on to the class page.

Challenge: true or false questions uploaded to the class page.

Comparing numbers

Order your numbers to 100.

Complete the worksheet uploaded to the class page.

s RE - We are going to start our new RE topic this week of Pentecost.

Go through the Pentecost PowerPoint with someone from Home.

‘When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.’

Create your own ‘tongues of fire’ hat. I have uploaded some ideas to the class page.

Science –

You may be seeing lots of new flowers during your daily exercise.

I have uploaded a PowerPoint to see which flowers you can name.

I have also uploaded a plant hunt checklist. During your exercise see how many different flowers you can find. Can you name them all?

Maybe take a picture of each flower that you find or when you get home try to draw each flower that you found.

RE -

God is the Holy Spirit. It is important that the children understand this.

When the flames appeared the apostles were able to talk in a range of languages that they had never been taught. -Why do you think that they were able to talk in a range of languages? -What was God asking them to do? -What do you think they was going to do next?

Our symbol today is a dove which represents the Holy Spirit.  The dove has some colours around it - red, orange and yellow. What do you think the red, orange and yellow represent?

Create a piece of artwork using my description above. Place your artwork on your prayer focus.

Topic: Moon Zoom

Today we are going to think about the History of space travel.

Today we are going to order the history of space travel on a number line.

Read each of the cards and place them in order, think about what has happened over the last 100 years. Think and talk about how space travel and exploration might develop in the future

Pick 5 of the most important cards. Why do you think they are the most important in the history of space travel?

ART:Choose one or have a go at drawing all of them! Make sure you send me a picture of your drawing!

Idea

s The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about famous or significant people. Learning may focus on past or present inventors, explorers or scientists and how they influence society today.

● How Important is Mary Seacole?- Mary Seacole was a Jamaican-born nurse who is remembered for helping soldiers during the Crimean War. Using this video your child can create a simple timeline of Mary Seacole’s life. If this is too challenging, why not ask your child to design an award for Mary Seacole. Your child could also locate Jamaica and Scotland on a world map.

● Keep them Clean!- Mary Seacole visited Florence Nightingale, another important nurse, during the Crimean War. Florence Nightingale was known for highlighting the importance of hygiene when caring for the sick, particularly handwashing. Ask your child to create handwashing posters for the home. They might want to make up a jingle too!

● Intriguing Inventions- Challenge your child to invent something new. Perhaps a new gadget for the home to keep the family entertained, or something that would help a doctor or a nurse. They can draw and label their design, and could have a go at making it using things from the recycling box. Share this online using #TheLearningProjects.

● The Queen: Then and Now- What was life like for Queen Elizabeth I? This video may help your child to understand. How is life different for the current queen, Queen Elizabeth II? Ask your child to create a list of the similarities and differences. They might focus on appearance, family and interests. They could show this using illustrations too.

● A Seriously Significant Somebody- Who is important to your child? What makes them so important? Your child could draw or paint a portrait of their significant somebody using a photograph or digital image to support them. They may wish to write an information report about this person too!
